Work is underway, at a very early stage, of an animated version of Frank Miller's classic "The Dark Knight Returns":

Due a lot sooner (as in this "Fall") is an animated version of Frank Miller's other Bat-classic, "Year One":

Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu are directing the movie, the 12th entry in the successful series of DC universe animated originals. Tab Murphy wrote the script.

The feature adapts the landmark four-issue story written by Miller and drawn by David Mazzucchelli that first appeared in 1987 on the heels of Miller's seminal work, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Those tomes, along with The Watchmen, helped elevate the comics medium, changing the public's perception of the art form and influencing Hollywood writers and artists to this day.

In Year One, a young Bruce Wayne is first starting out as a costumed vigilante. He creates an early bond with Lieutenant James Gordon, whose importance in the tale makes it as much as Gordon's story as Wayne's.

Cranston is playing Gordon, while McKenzie is Wayne/Batman. Dushku voices Catwoman, while Sackhoff is Detective Sarah Essen, a Gordon love interest.

Additionally, Alex Rocco lends his pipes as crime lord Carmine Falcone.

As one of the holy grails in comic books, Year One will be closely scrutinized for faithfulness, but superhero animation veteran Bruce Timm, who is exec producing, says there is very little in the movie that isn't in the comic.

No idea who Ben McKenzie is, but my first thought was "Why him & not Conroy?"

He was on the terribly lame "The OC", and is currently on the much better "Southland". I'm thinking he might actually be a good choice for Batman's voice. As for why they didn't go with Conroy. Hard to say. They've used a few different actors for Batman in the DCU movies, some better than others, but Conroy is the definitive Batman voice, of course.

As much as I've enjoyed the DCU movies, I am kind of getting a little bit bored with adaptations of stories I already know. I'd like to see more original material.

I can't wait to see them. Batman: Under the Red Hood was one of the best things I've ever seen so I'm very enthusiastic about DC animated movies, well Batman ones at least. All Star Superman kinda sucked.

As for voice actors, as far as I'm concerned it's either Kevin Conroy or Bruce Greenwood, both are excellent. I wouldn't even consider anyone else lol!

Well ive heard Kevin conroy and Mark Hamill could be voicing in The Dark knight returns hope its true though if they don't use Kevin use michael ironside. its probably because Kevin's been busy with Arkham City and DC universe online. Can't see Mark Hamill retiring the joker as he said that the last time we have hope

He Said that the last time before he agreed to do Batman Arkham Asylum after he finished voicing Joker in 2004 he didn't think he was going voice him again so anything can happen plus its a known fact that he loves to play the joker
