toyiness iOS

I mean really, why would people think that, just because it doesnt have convoluted menu systems and stuff the majority of people dont use in the menu systems, this makes it toyish? I mean for the minority that want advanced features just jailbreak. Covers all bases that way.

It's more likely something the geeks would use to justify why something else is better.

Why does it bother you though?

Indeed.

Most people i know jailbreak their iphones to get round apples stupid restrictions. I wouldn't say nowadays its the minority that do it either. Its a very common practise.

I don't think iOS looks toyish. Outdated, yes.

The percentage of jailbroken iPhones is less than 10%, so that's still a definite minority.

Because they can't accept that the majority of people don't.

Utter rubbish again from you.

In actual fact, when rooting/jailbreaking first started yes it was a minority but more and more people are doing it.

You cant possibly know that and neither can anyone else.

Lots of different companies have pointed toward those figures - companies that have information about a wide range of app useage that monitors background info on devices. They can detect if a device is jailbroken. So given a decent sized sample of a few million devices it's easy for them to deduce it.

Of 40+ people I know with iPhones or iPads, there are 6 who have jailbroken, but I know a lot of geeks. Of the ordinary people I know who have iPhones, which is definitely the majority, none of them have jailbroken.

It's not just companies that work with iOS that have that info. Android Market collects stats on OS version usage, device language, country location etc.

You can't know for certain, but you can estimate based upon facts we know and analysis, just like we can with everything else.

It's thought that the figure is around 10%, people who go on computer and phone forums regularly are always surprised by this figure because all they see all day is discussion of tech stuff. They tend to work with or have a group of friends with similar interests or similar age group and they assume that's representative, when in fact it's not.

Do you have actual evidence to back up your actual fact?

What is confusing about it? Way to take offense when none was intended. I would put myself in the geeky list to an extent.

Because most people want it to do it's function i.e phone, browsing etc, the geeks (and I include myself in this) are the ones which spend a lot of time working out how it works, what OS it's running on and what that's based upon, they customise it and make it do things the designer hadn't planned for and enjoy tweaks and mods. Those aren't your typical device owners, these are the 10% we're talking about.
