Love Scotty; Country - nah not so much

So many comments from Scotty fans indicate that a lot don't like C&W.

I like Dr Hook style stuff but most country leaves me reaching for the remote but I love this guy's voice and demeanour (although the latter is by the by).

Speaking selfishly, I want lots of themes that take him out of the country mold (nearly typed mould - how Freudian) as I know that post idol, this lad is only going to sing country

Or can we save him from himself?

The thing that frustrates me about it is the C&W genre seems to sap all the youth out of younger singers, making them seem old before their time.

The contrast was obvious when Scotty sang Elvis. All of a sudden he was a young virile man. Liberated.

Aaron Kelly was similar last year. Another 17-year-old who sang like he was about to draw his pension. I think he was a Mormon, so possibly an inhibiting religion rather than his R&B genre made him seem old.

I'm not a Country fan either but Scotty is my favourite this year by miles.

I'm also not a country fan, but Scotty manages to keep it interesting and fresh for me. However I do think he needs to challenge himself more rather than just proving he is a good performer (as it's 'job done' as far that goes )

I loved his Elvis too!

Can we draw him over to the dark side away from country. For me he has too good a voice to limit himself that way.

I know I am being selfish as the boy loves his genre and presumably he has some fans who are country fans too but I hope he realises that there are also those of us who like him in spite of it. So he can branch out too

yeah for me Scotty's voice, while I appreciate is good, is very "middle aged"

I don't like country so am not in the demographic to buy his albums .. and while it would be nice to see him challenged by another genre, I don't see the point of him singing too far out of the country zone on the show as that's who he is and what he'll be doing post idol ... I like artists on these sort of shows to show who they genuinely are as performers as much as they're allowed to so that people know what to expect from their post show albums

I'm a country fan but I think Scotty should pick songs more contemporary, Something by the likes of Jason Aldean, Keith Urban or Brad Paisley would suit him better, This weeks song was lame, in the past 10 years there has been some amazing country songs, yet what he picked was rubbish, Still hoping he wins though!!

Scotty seems to be odds on favorite to win but has done nothing to justify that. Presumably Country in the US is their equivalent of our 'folk' here in the UK. So far he's not sung anything with a degree of difficulty of more than 5 out of 10, in this round of 7 it was more like a 3. Compare that with Haley, for example, under threat of elimination each week but in Benny and the Jets, Piece of my Heart and Rolling in the Deep has performed songs of degree of difficulty nearer 10 than 5.

It is an interesting point - what would "justify" being in the lead. I am probably on the musically unsophisticated end of the spectrum and just like what I like sorta thing.

Scotty is the one I want to listen to over again. Just love his voice. I get the point about stretching yourself and the degree of difficulty but when it comes down to it, for me it was who did I enjoy most.

I was wondering what Scotty or any of the others would have to do for me to change my allegiance. I don't that that there is anything that the others could do ( I think they are all class btw), they just don't have his voice. Scotty would have to start singing badly, very out of tune or be so obviously nervous that my stomach would be knotting for him.

I do wish he would hold his mic "properly" though

I quite like country but Scotty's repetitive yodelling bores me to death.

Funny that because Scotty hasn't yodelled once.
