So what? It is he who has had the guts to get up on stage and do it. Why didn't those on You Tube enter then?
You could equally say why didn't he do shows at the Edinburgh Festival in 2009 and 2010 and get numerous 5* reviews?

Performing live on Radio 1 takes quite a lot of guts...

Never heard of Frisky and Mannish before, but this is their nursery rhyme mash-up. Sigh.

Anyway, they've told people to lay off the Britain's Got Talent singer on Twitter...(@friskynmannish) Which is nice of them.

Apparently there's something similar to us on #bgt tonight? We don't know, we're out gigging. What's the goss? about 23 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

Thanks for all your brillz supportive tweets, but there's no need to get ninja on this poor guy!! Yet to see, but sure he doesn't deserve it about 21 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

I hadn't heard of Frisky and Mannish before, but I liked Ed's act, so I thought I'd check them out, and I really like their work too! Ed's done them a favour as he's brought this type of act further into the mainstream, the more people who watch Ed will be encouraged to check out F&M. I hope Ed has such a diverse repertoire!

Where did SuBo get the ultra-original idea of singing a song normally from? No one hold it against her that Paul Potts, Connie Talbot and numerous others before thm had tried the same act. Not the same songs, but Ed used a different song too - he incorporated Old McDonald, but not to the Girls Aloud tune.

The idea of singing Nursery Rhymes to pop songs is very old. In the 1950s I took part in a church social singing various Nursery Rhymes to the tune of The Happy Wanderer.

It has also been done on a radio show, ' I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue' (One Song to the Tune of Another) they used mash ups from various different songs.

I think the main reason it came up was because Edward Reid and Frisky & Mannish were on the same bill at a comedy festival nearly two years ago, at which they performed their nursery rhyme number which Ed complemented them on. Surely you can see the similarities between the two acts! Had he not been personally known to them I don't think there would have been much of a fuss.

And yes F&M have on several occasions been invited to audition for Britain's Got Talent.

Yeah, he's also not bad at doing Tom Jones songs.

I agree.

But why lie? I really don't understand why he lied about getting a few song choice idea's from F&M, there's no denying the vast number of coincidences there. Where's the shame in saying he was inspired by them anyway, taking their initial idea and expanding on it by taking it to the next step? I mean every act is inspired by someone, so after already admitting it wasn't an original concept, why then lie about his inspiration? Its crazy to me that he's then gone and come up with this elaborate alternative scenario, involving two sick children. It actually says a lot about his character, going down the heart wrenching sob story route instead of the obvious truth.

I think what is likely to have happened is a selection of F&M fans noticed it straight away, and once a trend emerged Ed was contacted by the media about it and panicked. You can imagine the way a reporter would have phrased it "Is it true you stole your idea from F&M?" I guess under those circumstance it would be natural to be defensive about it, but that lie? His differing scenario is what has made a story here, especially since F&M are rather famous for it anyway.

The sad thing is Ed has a great voice and gave a great performance, they sound nothing a like. He should give credit where credit was due, and let that be the end of it. F&M even stated they weren't the first to do this sort of style, but he knows they have a right to be a little miffed because of his song choices.

He was obviously inspired by F&M I guess which is fine, so why didnt he say that? It may be true he worked with special needs kids but in his interview he made it sound like it was his own idea

That's like saying the Matrix body popping guy is a rip off, because people have been body popping/break dancing for decades.

Hmm... I thought 'stolen' was way too harsh and was perfectly happy to accept that Ed had come up with the idea spontaneously - as many others have pointed out, playing with out-of-place lyrics is hardly a radical new concept - but something is beginning to smell a bit fishy. I just don't buy the 'teaching disabled people ee-eye, ee-eye sounds' - why would you choose that vowel combination? What would you be trying to achieve?

I thought he was vaguely entertaining but can't say I'd rush to see him perform. On the upside, I'd never heard of Frisky and Mannish till I came on this thread and I'll certainly be rushing to their next gig now - you don't often get that level of creativity, musicianship and funny combined. So thanks to Ed for that accidental introduction, at least
