USB Wireless advice for Sony Bravia
With Sony Bravia TVs, specifically the KDL40EX503, can you use any USB Wireless adapter, or do you have to use a specific Sony one? I have heard the Sony ones are quite expensive.
Is there any other alternatives? Thanks. |

As far as I'm aware you have to use Sony's own adaptor for wireless.
I use Powerline adaptors on my Sony TVs, they work great. |

Yep, it's the Sony one only and yep, it's expensive!

Reply borrowed from AV Forums:
As per the thread below its not been done yet and no usb device use that chipset that anyone can find. The new Xbox360 wifi N adapter is the same chip, its £40-50 quid, it might work but its only a little bit cheaper. Sony 32 EX500 USB Wifi Adapter You could get another cheap router compatible with DD-WRT and turn it into a bridge. I've done this with one I got of ebay, works fine with any network device as it just plugs into the ethernet port. You could also try Homeplugs rather than cables. HomePlug Powerline Alliance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Amazon, Broadbandbuyer and usual online places sell them. Get a set of AV homeplugs so that they are fast enough. Around £50-60 quid, so not so cheap but faster than wifi G. If your streaming HD Wifi G won't be fast enough you'll need N in which case the Homeplug might be more cost effective anyway. |

I got mine for free when I brought my Sony TV last year. You just have to haggle a bit.

Sony Bravia KDL32CX523 and UWABR100 USB Dongle
I am trying to set up to connect the TV to my wi-fi router for the first time. On scanning I can see my home-network and the signal strength is good. On selecting this I then put in my WPA code and on entering this I keep getting returned to the code input screen (the one where you actually select letters and numbers). I know my WPA code is correct and I am using upper-case as set up . But I am not being connected and there's nothing to say 'incorrect' or 'error', it just returns me to the screen without comment. I think I may be doing something simple wrong but I can't think what it is. Why can't I get past the input WPA code screen? |

What are you clicking on after entering the WPA?, if I remember correctly you need to click on 'Enter'.
without comment to the key pad. Returning out of this screen doesn't seem to do anything and enquiring on Network Status shows that nothing has been set up. |

Is there a button you need to press first on the router itself?.
There is on mine, which then gives you 10 minutes to connect any new equipment. |

You might try doing a factory reset, this returns the set to how it was when you got it, and asks you to input the country, tune it etc.
I've found that sometimes cures it when you can't get a connection via WiFi. EDIT: Just had a thought, what router do you have?, BT Homehubs often seem not to work. |

Go into your Modem/Router settings and check these. This is what I have, A Linksys Modem/Router and a Sony TV in this case the Wireless Card is built in but I guess it's the same one. It maybe worded differently in yours.
In the Modem/Router: SSID broadcast - Enabled Security Mode - WPA2-Mixed (This means either WPA or WPA2 cards will connect) Encryption - TKIP+AES Group Key Renewal - 1 hour (If this is too short like ~1 min it makes it harder to connect) On the Sony TV: Network > Network Setup > Wireless setup > Scan ** > Select or manual entry for SSID > Select Security mode, in my case WPA/WPA2-PSK (AES) > Then you enter the Key/Passphrase. That works for mine. ** Maybe you are trying WPS (WiFi protected setup) or something like that. I don't use that at all, I use the standard Windows Wireless Zero Configuration, for simplicity, not the Linksys wireless software which does have the WPS. |

Wireless is better when the Router is upstairs like in my case. I hate cables! I have my wireless router setup to only allow any device that I add so maybe you have this feature active? You just need the mac address of the TV and then you can add it. It should take a minute to set this up.
