Self-Satisfied Opinions & Assumptions?
The Irony.
Your post is just one opinion from one person. It doesn't make you right in any way.
You confused. The person I'm replying to assumes I'm a crazy 'believer' and has made a bunch of insulting self satisified remarks about his fans. And largely spouted incorrect assertions
I didn't assume any one of these guys are musical heroes of his to the point it offends him if they're criticized or that my opinion and the others in this thread is signficant to him.
My replies have bit of fact behind them

And thanks for stating the obvious. We're making opinions but some based a lot more in truth and sense than others. You're involvement served no purpose.

Can't stand Michael Jackson and Elvis' later stuff makes me vomit :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSeSR-of9Es

My Personal Top 10
1. The Beatles
2. The Kinks
3. Paul McCartney
4. Bob Dylan
5. Pink Floyd
6. The Rolling Stones
7. George Harrison
8. David Bowie
9. Led Zeppelin
10. The Beach Boys
All of these bands could fit easily into my top ten ! However I also thought Elvis had some great songs in the late 60's/early 70's before his big downfall. Good to see Macca in the top five, who doesn't get anywhere near the amount of respect he deserves for his acheivements AFTER the Beatles. Don't get me wrong though I love all the Beatles exposure in recent years. Which reminds me saying there overrated is a terrible excuse for saying you hate them.

'Elvis was bigger than Michael Jackson'. No fact included.
Could have just said that, left out the petty remarks and not waste time replying to things I didn't say. Never mentioned the Beatles in this thread. I respect them. Never called Michael Jackson a God.
Don't know what a 'believer' is. Meant as a self satisfying insult I guess.
Don't care.

Michael jackson is the most famous and iconic popular artist ever.
Easy to agree with, an accepted truth. Refuse to acknowledge it doesn't change anything does it you old fart.
His voice, videos, songs, dances and outfits are the most recognised ever in popular music. Fact.

Cleary he was more talented than Elvis and had a better musical output throught his careear.
He has of two of the greatest albums ever made and the biggest selling album by a long way.
I don't think I've ever seen an Elvis Album on best lists
Michael Jackson was bigger, badder and better than Elvis

Now unless you want to come at me with some facts instead of self satisfied opinions and assumptions lets end this here.
no its your OPINION... it is not a fact.

the irony indeed...you say you dont worship him, you say you arnt a believer (in his greatness) then post the very dribble that contradicts that ridiculous statement..

the op posed two questions, who do you think out of these four acts are the greatest as a) a personal view and b) factual... all you have done is jump on the thread to criticise those who dont rate jacko as the greatest ever icon... most of us recognise what he did, but place him firmly behind elvis and the beatles.... so whats your problem with that?

you are basing you assertions that jacko is greater then elvis based purely upon sales, but that isnt what was asked. the impact elvis had on the whole music sceen was far more immense then jacko... this is the problem i have with you rabid jacko fans, you rate him higher then everyone else does, your view of his 'greateness' his blinkered. now im NOT saying that he wasnt huge, i fully accept that theres a huge commercial bandwaggon pushing his iconic figure and screwing every last penny out of his fans , but behind the hype critically he has never been regarded as anything more then a very successful recording artist.

.... and another thing, im more likely to listen/buy some early jacko material then elvis...ive never liked elvis... but when ALL the great artists who were around at the time cite elvis as their inspiration, i listen. jackos influence wasnt and never has been that broad, it wasnt cross-genre, it is specific.

you can like what you want to, you can believe what you want too... it doesnt alter the facts that both the beatles and elvis are widely regarded as greater then jacko, like it or lump it.

My personal favs out of those 4

1) The Beatles . amazing band. changed the face of popular music.
2) Oasis . yeah, influenced by the Beatles style, but did some great songs
3) Elvis, not a fan, liked his early rock and roll stuff , but his influence is unarguable.
4) Michael Jackson. never really liked his music, sorry.

Who is the greatest?,...... whoever you think is the greatest is the greatest.

Personally for me, It's The Beatles by a long way.

you see...ive combed the internet, looking for some varification of these claims, and all i can find time after time again is lists like this
http://top40.about.com/od/top10lists...alltime.03.htm

i have NEVER seen a poll, or any documentation by the music hierarchy, musicians and critics, that have EVER placed jacko above elvis or the beatles. the only people who rate jacko higher then the beatles or elvis are the fans.... fair enough, everyone is entitled to like who tf they want too, which answers one of the two questions posed by the op... but there is not one independent shred of evidence from anyone that places jacko higher then elvis... now that is a fact.

My personal preference of the acts listed would be:

1. Beatles
2. Oasis
3. Michael Jackson
4. Elvis

But i would say that in terms of what they achieved and the impact they made the list should be

1. Beatles
2. Elvis
3. Michael Jackson
4. Oasis

I love Oasis but i dont even think Noel Gallagher would describe them as being amongst the most influential acts of all time.

if you care to read the thread youll see that most people dont rate your beloved mj, (along with oasis).. there have been some damning comments from people who didnt take part in any previous debate about mj... theres only me, and now you, so your comment is as relevant to you as it is me.
Ahem - I think you'll find that anyone who has anything remotely positive to say about Michael Jackson will wisely hold their tongues if they notice you've infected the thread first. Me included.

you are trying to pick an argument that doesnt really exist! throughout the thread, most here recognise what he did INCLUDING ME... (thats more then 'remotely' saying something positive) , but dont rate him above the beatles or elvis, neither do any of the independant polls, critics, or musicians opinions that i can find on the internet. the ONLY people who rate him higher are his fans, now thats understandable, but stop trying to turn this into a 'the fans are right and everyone else is wrong' statement.

if you read the thread youll find others have been far more 'anti' jacko then i have... a point you conveiniantly overlook.

what is wrong with coming third behind the beatles and elvis? please tell me.... because from my perspective there is NO disgrace there.

Without question I would list them in the following order...

1. The Beatles - They changed the face of popular music, away from artists who sang songs written by professional songwriters to writing their own words and music. They are/were the template of bands that would follow for the next 40 years, they have sold the most records by far worldwide. More artists relate the Beatles as the artist which influenced them more than any other. Their songs have been played more times than any other artist. People can choose not to like them, that is a personal choice, but you cannot deny the success and influence they had on modern popular music over the last 40 years.

2. Elvis . I like a lot of his stuff personally. He was the first global musical superstar. Where he differed from the Beatles was that he never wrote his own songs. But in saying that, he knew how to sing a song, he certainly knew how to perform on stage. There are many people who decided to become singers after watching Elvis perform.

3. Oasis- I like some of their output, but was never a huge fan. I think they wanted to be the Beatles of the 1990's, but they never quite achieved it.Good attempt though.

4. Michael Jackson. Now before all you MJ loons start up, I quite liked his songs from the 1970's up to Thriller, but then I stopped liking him. It became just to much of a circus, more about him and less about the music. I think he just believed the hype too much. His musical output certainly deteriorated after Bad.

It's a typical Oasis cover. Nothing more.

The original is far superior.

Oh, and MJ was crap from 'Thriller' onwards, and that record was over-rated.

Oasis covered "Heroes"?! When?
The bar-stewards, is nothing sacred!
Just the thought of Liam mangling those vowels is making me ill.

Out of those 4 The Beatles or Elvis are clearly the best, but i prefer listening to early oasis over the beatles or elvis anyday, shame they only did 3 decent albums and then went down the toilet.

Oasis shouldn't be on the list in that company. A 2nd rate Beatles/Lennon tribute band.
Spot on fella.

I heard The Script cover it last night on some tv show, and it was like hearing all the stray cats let into KFC

Elvis is the best? Why because he's white? Came in the 50's? Care to name a song he wrote or any great album?
What seperates him apart from 'influence' from all the modern day singers who are criticized they're not artists because they don't write their songs

And don't resurrect dead threads

It was Noel singing and it shits all over the original.

And this is from someone that likes the music of David Bowie.

The cover gives it the energy and the anthemic sound that the original is sorely lacking.

I like Oasis but they really are small fry compared to the other three. A more accurate comparison would have been The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, maybe even Metallica, as all were far more influential - and indeed enduringly popular - than Oasis.

Ah Noel, I can just imagine him mangling those consonants.

Well I've just had a listen and I have to disagree, it sounds like what it is.. Noel Gallagher singing "Heroes". Mediocre at best.

And the original isn't anthemic?!

Back in 1997.
It was one of the B-sides to the D'You Know What I Mean single.

It's all subjective but to me it's:

The Beatles
Oasis
Elvis
Michael Jackson
