Madonna - Secret
Some people asked me to make a thread about it...so I did
anyway its one of my favourite songs by Madonna which I think is often quite underrated. The lyrics are quite interesting,in one part its something like "take me back to that paradise which I thought I lost forever"(?) which I think reflects on the time when she wanted to reinvent herself after Erotica when the media kept saying her career was over. Amazing song

mmmmm someone's coming over
mmmmm someone's coming over mmmm someone's coming round for tea I better get the kettle on ![]() I love Secret, it's just one of those perfectly crafted pop songs that just appear from nowhere (in the sense that there was nothing around at the time that sounded anything like it). And a radical shift from what she'd done before. We're due for another Secret moment I think, something remarkable that's totally out of the blue. |

Secret is truly underrated! i want her to perform it again.
Bedtime Stories is an overlooked album really. he whole media attention and backlash Erotica and that era took from everyone everywhere really eclipsed this album itself let alone the singles. While as an album and concept Erotica truly is another dimension to Bedtime Stories i truly love BS ![]() And Secret is so subtle and darkly Funky too, i loved it. And the video is damn sexy i think. |

It's amazing to think now that back in the mid 90's she really had lost her star. I remember her doing a song on TOTP and she was so low key that it hardly mattered that she'd flown in especially to do it.

wonderful song. i remember hearing for the first time. i was in a bus travelling back from the airport after a holiday. the song came on the radio. i remember wishing everyone on the bus would just shut up!
i loved the video to this song. i love the way the music takes over her body when she is singing in the club. very clever. for me the most underrated single on that album was take a bow. it was a huge no 1 in the us, but only got to no 16 in the uk. after rihanna release a song with the same name it is like madonna`s take a bow never existed! |

I've only heard Secret very recently and I'm blown over by how good a song it is.
The whole BS period was a good period of damage control after the Sex/Erotica/Body of Evidence/Letterman fiascos. She didn't shy away from who she was (Human Nature) but toned it down a bit (like Secret, alludes to something sexy without being obvious). I'm kind of glad it happened, honestly, because I think that entire period made her mature a lot as a person and find out more about who she was instead of slipping into self obsession like Prince or becoming a pariah in a bubble like MJ. |

Even though she did manage to claw her way back to the top just like Madonna following the Erotica backlash. Prince, I read, never really recovered his earlier success and MJ was practically a walking joke to the public before his death. Last edited by x_bibs93_x : 25-04-2011 at 15:34. Reason: typo |

to be honest though Britney backlash was really personally severe...i still dont think she has recovered. Musically she is top...but where the fuuuck is she....she was meant to at least promote Femm Fatale no??? i like her but damn
![]() Madonna i am so glad she did Bedtime Stories like previous posters have stated, sure it may not be necessarily a masterpiece album, but it is so strong musically and rather explorative. The Erotica backlash just reading it sounded horrific. But she still sold millions of both albums Erotica and BS, and Erotica is one of the best Dance themed album ever made IMO. Vocally i loved her she manipulated her voice between Like A Prayer and Bedtime Stories, so very rich. And it paved way for Ray Of Light also! Secret and Take A Bow in the UK is so underrated! i mean seriously it was her biggest number 1 in the USA and here number 16 it is a masterful ballad. And while i love Rihanna i truly feel her TAB was nothing compared to Madonnas TAB musically and emotively...it truly meant something.

it is interesting that she recorded a demo with shep pettibone called `something`s coming over me` which later became `secret`. shep didn't get a writing credit originally.
apparently the song is more of a dance sound and the people that have heard the demo actually prefer it. madonna, however said the song will never be released in her lifetime. |

Brilliant album. ![]() and yeah a LOT of BS started with Shep Pettibone again, but sounded too close for Erotica and she wanted something more mellow but a natural progression from that era. And i am so glad she did, there is only one Erotica, Bedtime Stories does stand its ground! Reminded me of TLC and Aaliyah in some elements of the album and I think there was an Aaliyah sample in one song on BS but forget which it was ![]() edit - Aaliyahs Back And Forth from her debut album was sampled in Inside Of Me LOVE IT!!

I do aswell be nice to go back in time. Wish i was old enough to go clubbing in the 90s aswell.
i remember `dont cry for me argentina` the miami mix, was probably the most popular in the 90s! well at least in the clubs i went to! |
