I was listening to some of her stuff recently. Some of it is more palatable than others.

I was struck on how much of an influence she must have been on Bjork. Bjork is like a more commercial version of Yoko...

I agree I don't like literally everything she has done, her Rising album is fantastic! Approximately infinite Universe is the best place for newbies to start from in my opinion! I understand what you mean about Bjork, Yoko is very influential, she has been cited as an influence for many artists apparently! I just really enjoy listening to her music! I admit her voice is an aquired taste, but it really suits her more avantgarde stuff, that cackling she does is fantastically effective on certain tracks! That track cabledude posted isn't her best vocal I have to admit, but please don't be put off by that she has so much cracking material to explore!

I wasn't familiar with any of these tracks but I did buy Walking on Thin Ice when it was first released and totally loved it. That's an interesting selection of tracks you chose and some of them are more accessible than I thought they would be. Musically they are quite pleasing but the problem I have is with her voice, not always hitting the right key and very thin and reedy. The later tracks are interesting (without the Lennon involvement), as they show that she did have some talent for a tune and wasn't just relying on Lennon to come up with the goods, such as his input on Walking On Thin Ice, which for me could be a Lennon solo song. Time to check out the albums I think

I know, it's a bit of a sporadic selection of tracks! I'm glad you see that she has her own talent! I'm not really familiar with John's stuff and only really know the really famous Beatles tracks so there's no bias from me which also helps in having an objective view on something. I can understand your feelings on her voice, she has a tone that not everyone will appreciate, I just feel it really suits most of her songs! I also love that cackling she does, it really is effective, just listen to the track 'Mulberry'! Her 'Approximately Infinite Universe' is possibly her most accessible one in my opinion so maybe start there, she can sing, she doesn't only cackle and scream like some think!

I really love her music, her 'Season of Glass' album might be a good place to start also, one of my personal top faves though is her 'Rising' album, it has such an odd and dark mood running through it! Yes do check all of her albums out, the 2 I'm not totally feeling yet are 'Feeling The Space' & 'Starpeace' the albums 'Fly' & 'Plastic Ono Band' are pretty much full on experimental avantgarde so if that's something that may interest you, look there.
