Is it fair to win by just being nice

For character Scotty is a really nice guy and sings well. Having said that he is not in the same league has some of the others in the talent stakes. Yet i have a feeling that he may still win. Surely James and Casey on performance and talent are some way in front.
Its the same ole thing with reality TV - Popularity or talent?

I'd say Scotty has a better voice than Casey, he just doesn't have Casey's level of artistry. I would say James has a better voice, but if Scotty tried singing C&W straight, with a voice like James's, goodness knows how that would sound!

I think they all come across as nice guys - my favourite, Stefano, seemed lovely, and had an awesome voice. I even liked Paul's personality, and his voice didn't impress me a great deal, but knowing as I do now that his vocal chords are damaged, I can see why he didn't come across as well vocally as he apparently does in his pre-Idol recordings

Whoever wins will win because they have the most votes, of course. It's just a shame no one has to give a reason for their vote lol

I don't watch much of the show apart from the performances and the judging, so I don't know too much about their personalities, but I did get the impression that Casey was Mr Personality and likely to pick up votes that way.

If I voted for AI I would be voting for Scotty and because I think he has a fantastic voice that I look forward to hearing. Indeed I am really only following the show this year because his voice grabbed me in the audition stages. It is an added bonus that I think he's a nice guy too. It would only put me off voting if I thought that he was a cruel git - a bit of a bad boy wouldn't matter. I would be helping to chooseva singer not a life partner.

I think though that if someone's perceived niceness is part of what makes you relate to and enjoy his performances then it's fair enough that niceness plays a part in your voting, it's different if you just vote for the nice guy even if you don't much care for his voice/ performance.

I thought Crystal was very talented last year but she put me off by appearing as though she felt she were above the show and the other contestants - talented or not, she wasn't.

Anyway, she wasn't my favourite, Siobhan was. I loved Siobhan's sweet and quirky personality, along with her amazing voicce!

I don't think being 'nice' is winning Scotty the vote

He's cornered the tween/teen vote (strangely, despite looking like the love child of George W Bush and Alfred E Neuman - but hey, what do I know about tween/teen tastes these days) plus he sings country, very authentically and that is a massive vote getter.

Compared to James and Casey - well Scotty has exactly the right type of voice to do exactly the type of music he's doing. Casey is a far better musician and is more musically talented, however I don't think his voice goes naturally where he wants it to go, it often sounds strained, forced and very affected.

Similar to James, much as he wants to sing rock/metal, his voice just doesn't naturally go there, he lacks power, his high notes are often screamed and there's very little distinctive about his vocals. James, again similar to Casey, does tend to go a bit OTT on performances, maybe a result of forcing his voice, he creeps into cheesey metal territory, whilst Casey creeps into 'I'm really glad I don't like next door to him, he's got a skeeery face when angry' territory

If I was voting, well I'd be voting for Haley, after her, no one really

But Scotty hasn't won yet. Let's wait and see.
At this point, I think that he deserves to be in the competition because:
-he sings in tune
-he always gives decent performances, even when they are boring
-he has a great lower register.

In my opinion, considering what we have seen of him and the others so far, he doesn't deserves to win, and I sholud finish between #5 and #3.
But who knows, he may come-up with a break-through amazing performance in the next few weeks, or he may be the next shock boot...

He's not as nice as is made out, in Hollywood week when his group kicked Jaycee out of it, he was standing there grinning away, you could tell he was a lot more pleased to see the back of Jaycee than he was making out

Scotty comes across as a nice boy but so do James and Casey. Casey and his parents' reaction to his save still moves me when I rewatch it. James' niceness is the weakest of his weaknesses. He's simply too cuddly to pull off metal. If anything, Scotty has more of a glint in his eye than James.

Voicewise, Scotty has a better voice than James and more charisma. A good voice is about more than how high a note you can reach and stage presence is about more than how fast you can run across the stage or, particularly in James' case, how far backwards you can bend.

Casey's voice isn't great but he has other talents that more than make up for that.

Scotty has an exceptional tone and ability to convey a song for a 17 year old.

What makes being able to reach notes below the Earth's core with power and control any less spectacular than being able to reach notes beyond the stratosphere with neither?

So you keep bringing up at every possible opportunity ad nausea.

Who cares? Jaycee was kicked out for a reason and it's not as if they were proved wrong for it.

Honestly, he was 16 years old, don't you about you but I'm more then willing to cut a bit of slack to a kid over one action.

Scotty may win this, he hasn't yet, but if he does it will be because he deserves it as one of the better singers there. The only one who is better and more consistent vocally is Haley.

Casey isn't much of a singer, though he is an accomplished musician and immensely likeable, and James is just so many shades of wrong in what he is trying to do. It's hard to be convincing in metal or any type of rock when your top register has all the power of a sparrow and when you look like Wayne Rooney's sweeter little brother but to keep banging on about what a nice family-oriented guy you are and to be at your most outspoken when defending yourself on Twitter against absurd accusations that may have actually given you a modicum of interest and credibility really takes the biscuit.

How is Scotty not in the same league as Casey or James?

Scotty may not have Casey's musical prowess (we don't know, have we had any reason or opportunity to see that?) but he's definitely got a better voice. Casey's voice is the epitome of average. His other talents make his voice acceptable though in the context of the show as it has become over the past couple of years. He seems like a nice guy though, so he's not losing any votes on that count.

Scotty may not have James' lack of inhibition or self-awareness but what he does do on stage he does with more precision, purpose and professionalism than James and he's definitely got a better voice. For every high note James attempts and doesn't quite make, Scotty gets a low note spot on. James also seems like a nice guy though (too nice, as some others have said, and as was mentioned in an article, there's no danger to him that is needed to pull off the genre he is attempting) so I don't think he's losing out to Scotty in that respect either.

The unusualness of Scotty's tone for a boy his age sets him apart. Added to which, and this is probably the one point I've agreed with JLo on all season, he has a rare ability to tell a story when he is singing.

Haley and Jacob are probably the best singers left (though there are so many reasons why I don't like Jacob and not all to do with not liking the tone of his voice or his inability to know when to stop "running") but having been in the bottom three so many times already, I doubt Haley is in with a chance of winning ............... though stranger things have happened.

If some reports are to be believed, Scotty is running away with it (though you can never be sure with these things or that things won't change). Scotty is popular and talented. Popularity and talent may win this time.

Haley is the only one who sings out of tune every now and then

Her voice isn't all that

If Scotty wins, it will be because he deserves it fair and square. Nothing to do with being nice. None of them are coming across as demons.

Haley and Scotty are the only ones whose voices I feel could live with the best of the contestants from previous years.

Scotty seems to be losing power now, he was last to be called safe last night, something tells me that Haley may just pip him to get into the semi-finals, I fully expect Jacob to go next week regardless of how good he is because the public don't seem to get him

The results were called in totally random order last night, as they used to be on Pop Idol which means that there was no bottom two or three (note Ryan never once said bottom two or bottom three and retierated the randomness of the result reading more than once) and the person left standing with the eliminated contestant was not necessarily the one with the second lowest votes. Examples are when Suzanne Manning was the last one called safe but that week had polled the highest she ever polled, when Darius Danesh was the last one called safe but was third in the voting as he had always been and when Michelle McManus was the last one called safe but had actually topped the vote.

My guess would be that Haley polled the second or third lowest votes unfortunately.
