currently listening to Frida's I Know Somethings Going On, I just love this song, didn't do that great in the charts though.

it is a good song and a sizeable hit worldwide. just didnt do well in the uk.

on paper a frida and phil collins collaboration in 1982 should have been good.

in reality the album was pretty terrible. this was by far the best song.

I gave the album a quick listen, this was the only track that really grabbed me (and I've been playing it solid for the past few days). But to be honest I'm not too familiar with the girl's solo stuff, I haven't heard of any of Agetha's albums.

I liked that tune...although it bombed here, it did reach the top 20 in the US

It is distinctive and I quite like it. My favourite ABBA girl solo effort though is I Won't Let You Go from Agnetha. I absolutely love the driving insistence of the beat, and all-round sonic epicness.

personally i think agnetha`s `my colouring book` is by far the best solo project from the girls.

it is all cover versions. however it probably her best vocally outside the group.

the two albums of frida`s from the eighties, also lack the vocal performance that she achieve working with b&b.

I've just had a quick listen to a few Agnetha songs on spotify, there's definitely a richer vocal on my colouring book IMO. I'll check out some more of her work tomorrow.

It didn't help much that Frida never performed the song on TV in the UK as she did elsewhere to promote the single - possibly because there were still some bizarre restrictions in the UK in 1982 on allowing foreign artists to lip sync to their non-British produced backing tracks. Also, the fact that the video was only really shown on UK TV at prime time some months after the single had flopped didn't help either.

But, in hindsight, some of her European TV performances (where the audiences were obviously more forgiving than the British would have been) are pretty poor, with some awful outfits and clumsy dance routines including a very awkward "spin" at the instrumental break.

But it is a wonderful song, a great vocal and includes some really biting lyrics. It was a bit too "rocky" at the time for the British taste, but it was a big hit internationally including the US and Australia where the final ABBA singles in comparison, released at around the same time as Frida's single, had actually failed to chart.

It is, by far, the best song on the album, and a late addition too as it was not originally intended as a track for the LP. The album was actually to be called "I See Red" and the photo-shoot and video clip for that song (eventually only released in South Africa as a single) reflect that original concept.

ABBAs manager Stig Anderson, on first hearing the recorded songs for the album so far is reported to have commented to a very upset Frida "Ah, there are no singles!"

Thank goodness "I Know There's Something Going On" was added, because without it the album would lack any real depth and would have sunk without a trace, like her follow-up album SHINE did two years later.

As it was, despite being a disappointing single for Britain alone, the album did okay pretty much everywhere and has sold about 2 millions copies worldwide since release, making it the most successful of all the girl's solo albums since ABBA and BY FAR the biggest selling single.
