Just noticed that BBC4 are paying tribute to the late Lis Sladen, by repeating her final 'classic' series Tom Baker story, 'The Hand of Fear'.

Although, of course, this is out already along time ago on DVD, it's still a nice touch and good to see it repeated again.

It's in two installments, on Mon 9th May and Tuesday 10th May on BBC4.

For someone who doesn't have it on DVD such as I this is excellent news. Never seen it and looking forward.

Question: do repeats of old programmes appear on iPlayer? I know they do so with radio programmes but it never occurred to me for TV shows.

I've not seen too much of Old Who so I'll certainly be watching, thanks for the heads up!

Due to various right issues, most re-runs as old as this don't become available to download on BBC iPlayer.

I recall about 3 years ago when BBC Four showed "The Daleks" from the 1st Doctor era wasn't available
on BBC iPlayer, so I doubt this upcoming re-run of "The Hand of Fear" will be made available either.

Then again ... it might be. Depends on rights and possibly other issues.

Thought as much. Shame, as I imagine it would gain a larger viewership. Many a good programme are tucked away on BBC4 unnoticed.

I wish they would but I think if they haven't done it yet, it's too late.

All these responses and no-one has said it yet. So I will.

I've had to rescue this thread from all down on Page 15 of the forum! Anyway, it turns out The Hand of Fear
is coming to BBC iPlayer after it's aired on BBC Four, despite what I feared might happen regarding the
rights issues. Looks like they've actually got all the necessary rights issues sorted out for this one!

My (young) teenager son and I are going to watch the episodes together. It will be interesting to see his reaction.

Thanks. I'd forgotten to set that on my PVR.

Nice, this was one of the very first Who stories I recall seeing on TV, I must have only been about 4 at the time.

Haven't seen it since, so I guess the effects aren't exactly convincing now, but I remember being freaked out by the stone hand changing into a real one!

Just to say that both episodes are on tonight and appear to be repeated tomorrow, so 2 chances to see it. Just set it to record.

Very much looking forward to this! Haven't seen it since the original broadcast.

Part one and two tonight. The rest tomorrow. Good old BBC 4 (or "BBC 2" as we used to call it.)

I've just phoned my dad and told him about this as he didn't know. Apparently the DVD recorder is now set - he was a huge SJS fan - remember it well from watching it with him as a little girl - I was 5 when it was first shown.

Looking forward to watching it later - wonder whether I will have to watch it from behind a cushion like I did when I was 5

This is fantastic news. The Hand of Fear was/and still is such a fine episode.

R.I.P Elisabeth Sladen. You'll always be our/and the Doctor's Sarah Jane.

So where is the tribute to Nick Courtney ?

Why not show Zygons as a tribute to them both.

The Moffatt series is happy to ignore the death of the legend, Courtney, now BBC4 is doing the same.

Sladen, whose career nose dived from 1980 onwards gets a tribute.
