I didn't get Noggin the Nog first time round. I think I was too young. I can see why Oliver Postgate's work is so highly regarded. During the party sequence you could even hear noises that would later become the voices of the Clangers.”

Too old for Doctor Who, too young for Noggin. A familiar tale.

That's like the square root of - 1.

Or reading something sensible in the daily mail.

I used poetic licence to make my ill judged joke "work".

I enjoyed the rest of the story. As good as I remembered. A fitting tribute to choose her final classic Who episode.

Beeb4 ought to show these more often and not wait till there's an untimely death.

I agree about BBC 4 showing more classic Doctor Who serials, even showing them all in sequence
until the final episodes from 1989 but I would hazard a guess that it's highly unlikely to happen.

FWIW ... I thought "The Deadly Assasin" was a rather boring serial when I watched it.

Me too, I hope the Beeb start showing classic who on BBC4, would be brilliant. Just reaffirmed my love for Tom Baker.

Last night I watched it with my Who-mad 7 year old. He laughed at one or two unintentionally comical moments and had a little trouble keeping up with the plot in the fourth part, but on the whole really enjoyed it and despite the clearly slower pace it kept his attention throughout.

When it finished he wanted to know when the next episode will be shown so he can see what happens next. Would be great if BBC Four could show some more classic episodes.

Do they bother to measure viewing figures for such things?

Episode 1 - 19:40 - Doctor Who: 209,000 (0.9%)
Episode 2 - 20:05 - Doctor Who: 276,000 (1.2%)
Episode 3 - 19:40- Doctor Who: 168k (0.83%)
Episode 4 - 20:05- Doctor Who: 294k (1.37%)

They don't look great but I think those are actually pretty solid for BBC4 outside of 9-11pm when it tends to show its bigger shows.

Thanks. Solid but I suppose not enough to turn a programme planner's head.

Also Kids audiences were strong - around 40k on average for Episodes 1-2 & 50k for 3-4. BBC4 normally gets around 4-6k at that time of night!

Hmmm. Classic Who on CBBC, anyone?

Fine by me

Unfortunately the BBC wouldn't want to risk losing DVD sales.

Well no one knows exactly but that's what the BARB data says.

Annoyed that I missed this.

Why don’t they show more old episodes on TV? It’s annoying that they only show ones from recent series.

[quote=DJGM;50012871FWIW ... I thought "The Deadly Assasin" was a rather boring serial when I watched it.[/QUOTE]

I have to be honest and I have to agree .

I've been told the Tom Baker era was full of jokes to the point of some people finding it too silly.
That sounded EXACTLY like the kind of thing that would appeal to me so I was looking forward to this showing but unfortunately found it a bit dry and straight, apart from a good bit of "Doctorish-ness" at the start as the Tardis appeared in a quarry and assumed everything was normal as he dicked about with a cricket ball

Also while I realise the BBC chose this episode as a tribute because of its final scene, the lasting impression I got of it was that it was a shame we didn't get to see much of Liz Sladen being Sarah Jane since she spent a lot of the time being possessed..

Still want to see more original series stuff though.
