concerning The Beatles: it was 30 years ago today...
...that Ringo Starr, the first Beatle to be born but the last to join the band, got married for a second time. The place was Marylebone Registry Office (where Paul and Linda McCartney married in 1969, and their daughter Mary McCartney married her second husband in 2010). The bride, of course, was Barbara Bach, a model and actress best known for playing a Bond girl in the James Bond flick "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977). Since they got married, and against all odds, the two have been inseparable.
![]() This particular milestone makes Ringo's second marriage the longest of any former Beatle - surpassing that of Paul and Linda, who had been married for 29 years when the latter tragically died of breast cancer. And in all that time, they had only spent one week apart, when Paul was briefly jailed in Tokyo.(However, axed Beatles drummer Pete Best is the only former Beatle to have married just the once - and he has been married to Kathy (surname forgotten) for nearly 48 years, thus surpassing Ringo's 30 years so far with Barbara. )Whilst many could argue that Paul and Linda would still be together today (and totalling 42 years) if the latter had not lost her battle with her cancer, some might also suggest that had John Lennon had not been killed, he and Yoko Ono (whom he married in 1969, not longer after Paul and Linda were wed) might have since divorced - certain sources claim that Yoko had documents already lined up for this legal process after the recording of the album "Double Fantasy", and that Yoko recorded half the songs as an ultimatimum to Lennon, marriage-wise. George Harrison and his second wife Olivia Arias had been married 23 years when the former lost his battle against lung cancer. ![]() After quitting The Beatles before they found fame and fortune, Stuart Sutcliffe got engaged to photographer Astrid Kircherr - but died of a brain haemorrhage before they could get married. Very sad. ![]() BUT getting back to the original subject of this thread...many congratulations, Ringo! You thoroughly deserve to be so happy and have a reason to celebrate something so priceless. And you are a much, much better solo recording artist than anyone could give you credit for. Everything you did after quitting The Beatles deserves much re-appraisal (especially the albums you did in the '90s) and as you said during the peak of your career in 1973: you are the greatest!!

Apologies if this thread seemed pointless, and worth reading but not responding to.
![]() But seriously, as a solo artist, Ringo is hugely under-rated - especially compared to Phil Collins! ![]() For those not yet familiar, the following albums by Ringo are worth checking out: from the '70s, "Ringo" and "Goodnight Vienna" (both easily available); from the '80s, "Stop And Smell The Roses" (deleted, available only via E-Bay); from the '90s, "Time Takes Times" and "Vertical Man" (same as '80s output); from the 2000s, "Ringo Rama" and "Choose Love" (both easily available). You must hear what you have missed!
