Party Rock Anthem was released at the end of January but only got to #1 a couple of weeks ago.
Price Tag by Jessie J was one of the first on air/on sale tracks to be released and that debuted at number one when it had only been given proper airplay that week.
Other album tracks recently that have gone Top 3 have been album tracks that have gradually climbed over the weeks, such as
S&M, Just Can't Get Enough, ET and (what will be a Top 3 hit)
The Lazy Song.
The biggest example of all is
Someone Like You, which has been on sale since 21 was released, but gradually climbed up the charts.
I think it's more of a case of
Judas, Born This Way, Run The World, Hold It Against Me and
Til The World Ends being not brilliant songs. I'm a big fan of Beyonce, and I do like Run The World simply because it's Beyonce who's made it - but I know full well that her song won't have a mass appeal.
To succeed in the charts you have to have a song that appeals to the masses, not just a select few of super fans, which is what Gaga and Britney have. And it frustrates me when super-fans blame promotion, airplay and lack of videos when songs don't fare well. People just have to admit that these five songs that have 'under performed' have done so because they're a little bit shit.
