Number 2.

an amazing song, makes you wonder what the record buyers of the 80s were thinking when they ignored it!

Number 4. It was big in Ireland at the same time as Bleeding Love in 2008 and reached #4.

None of the above. I heard it for the first time when Joe McElderry sang it during one of the live shows on The X Factor.

Its now become one of my most hated songs as it has been played to death over the last couple of years

I remember being a kid & this was always on the radio. I was born in 1985 so.....

I didnt hear it for ages but then JD in Scrubs wanted Carla & Turk to book a Journey tribute band for their wedding and he did this funny version of the beginning of it. I think the Scrubs episode was recorded just before the Sorpranos...

I was only a few months old when it was released, but being a rock fan it used to be a standard in rock bars.

Well I'm 17 and I don't find the options broad enough, I don't fit into any of them. I'm a Glee Fan but I knew it before then, but I've never watched the Sopranos, so I can't put myself in that category. For me, it's just a song my Dad recommended me (after the Sopranos had ended) and I grew to love it. Though I think it's probably a little overplayed now, though I can appreciate it's a great song

I've heard it before at parties and knew it was an 80s song but thanks to X Factor then Glee now it's been overplayed to death (thanks to Glee) I'm positively sick of it

I like the Glee version the best and I'm not ashamed to admit it...though I don't like how the media have milked the song to death.

It's a hideous song, and the fact it flopped here in the 80s was reassuring proof of how UK audiences didn't buy into that soulless, bombastic, vacuous American AOR. One of the many reasons I hate 'Glee' is that it has fooled young viewers of that series into thinking the song was always seen as some sort of classic, whereas nothing could be further from the truth.

No1 as I bought the Journey album No Escape when it came out - it was always one of my favorite tracks but like a few other classics it's been ruined for me by some talentless wanabee covering it.

FFS x-factor, glee etc leave the rock/metal classics alone and ruin some other genre instead please.

I saw it on the Sopranos finale.

I wasn't even born in 1981 (eleven years later!) so Sopranos was my first exposure to it.

Used to come up a lot on one of those 'What You Listening To...' threads on another board. Apparently very popular at the end of pub nights in Scotsland.

2)

It was on ok tune.
It was also featured in the Charlize Theron film Monster quite prominently...Glee ruined it

I think Scrubs and then Family Guy.

Or the other way round.

I always loved 70s and 80s music especially that kind of over the top power tune but I'd never heard of this song until the last 5 or 6 years or so.

When my friend's band had lost their female singer they asked me to fill in for a performance, so I had to learn it for that, only a few years ago

As much as I love Glee, Journey's version is much much better.

I knew the song very well since the mid-90s because it's one of my dad's favourite songs. The original, that is. When I showed him Glee's version I saw him die inside.
