It's a small tub (compared to most tubs of ice cream sold) and the flavours are elaborate yes but is it really worth nearly a fiver?

No I don't think so. The ice cream tastes quite "cheap" to me.
Now Haagen Dasz Pralines and Cream - beautiful !
I always wait until there is a half price offer on in the shops anyway !
I won't pay nearly a fiver for ice cream !

And?

Eating nothing but breakfast cereal is more odd in my opinion.

I only get it if theres some sort of deal on it. Really couldn't justify paying a fiver for a tub that size. It's really annoying though because i prefer their frozen yogurts to their ice-creams but when i see the yogurts in shops (very rarely), they're never on special offer

What size "tub"?

Over here, Ben & Jerry's ice cream only comes in pints, which is 473ml.

A pint of Ben & Jerry's goes for $2.99, which is roughly 1.80 GBP.

Because people continue to pay the price.

It comes from the States and it is cheaper in the States because a lot of things are cheaper there than here.

It is more expensive than plain ice-cream, but people are willing to pay about £2 for a scoop of plain vanilla in a cone when out and about, for me I'd rather wait and have £2 worth of Ben and Jerrys at home.

It's not the best ice-cream but they have some brilliant flavour combos.

I find it too sweet - I make my own combos using

Vanilla
Chocolate
Strawberry

As my base then add biscuits, booze, nuts, anything I fancy.

I made a vanilla, strawberry and peanut butter variation - scrummy.

Got my inspiration from the Shakeaway site.

Really? Wow. Explains a lot.

Its a fiver for 500ml over here ($8.32).

We have a much more limited selection of flavours too in the UK.
Phish Food, Chocolate Brownie and Cookie Dough and if you are lucky one or two others.

You would be very lucky to find more than half of the flavours listed on their UK page...

http://www.benjerry.co.uk/ourflavours/ (UK site)

but even that full range (some of which I have never EVER seen in a shop) is tiny compared to the 6 pages ( ) of flavours listed on the US site....

It's not bad but that's my opinion! Like some others have commented (Andy Birkenhead), if the ice cream was just plain without the 'bits' (e.g. cookie dough, nuts, chocolate caramel pieces etc.), it really isn't the best ice cream you can ever taste. I agree with Andy's description of the ice cream itself tasting a bit "cheap." One of the flavours I like (the cookie dough) is a vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips and bits of cookie dough. It certainly isn't the best tasting vanilla ice cream - in fact, compared to other brands I've tasted, Ben & Jerry's vanilla ice cream is quite dull. The chocolate chips and the cookie dough make it. I once tried the vanilla ice cream on its own and it was missing a lot!

Most people I know (and this is by no means the best indicator) who would pick Ben & Jerry's over other brands of ice cream like it because of the 'bits.' If the ice cream was sold without the 'bits,' I don't think it would be the most popular.

To be honest Ben & Jerry's wouldn't be my first choice if I were going to eat ice cream. There are a few flavours that I like but they tend to be ones that you are hard pushed to find in a supermarket.

A decent vanilla, rum & raisin, strawberry or mint chocolate chip would win over Ben & Jerry's any day if I had to make a choice.

Ben and Jerry's definitely tastes like a cheaper and inferior product compared to Haagen Dazs.

I remember reading somewhere - and I wish I could find the original piece online - that Ben and Jerry's is priced artificially high purely to put it on the same price point as Haagen Dazs and for no other reason. This makes consumers think they are paying for a comparable product when in fact it could easily be sold for a lot less.

I never buy Ben and Jerrys unless there is a good multi-buy offer on it at the supermarket.

Why don't we get the whole UK range of flavours in the UK shops ??
For that matter, why don't we get the US range in UK shops ??
Are there ANY shops in the UK that sell all the UK flavours ?

I only buy B&Js or Haagen Dazs and only when they're reduced to a maximum of £2 per 500ml. They will charge what consumers are willing to pay, essentially.

I wish they'd bring back B&J's Chubby Hubby, my favourite.

Ben & Jerry's is the only ice cream I eat! You can certainly get most of the US flavours in the large cities like London & Birmingham. You may struggle in smaller places though.
Cherry Garcia and cinnamon roll are just the best!

Good questions. And I was watching The Big Bang Theory earlier and I noticed Penny was eating from what looked like a litre tub of B&Js. Certainly dont get them here. But then at a tenner a pop it really would just show how ridiculously overpriced it is over here.

I only ever buy it if it is on offer and even then I don't know why as I am not really that much of a fan, at a push cookie dough is my favourite.

Yes it's more expensive than it deserves to be, & apparently people think the taste isn't what it should be either:
In 2002, the Center for Science in the Public Interest accused Ben and Jerry’s of abusing the “All Natural” label for using artificial flavors, hydrogenated oils, and other factory-made substances in their products. Ben and Jerry’s official response was that they used a different definition of “all natural” than the CSPI.

I’d read that they addressed these problems, the ugly stuff went off the ingredients list, But... slowly, the ingredients list got longer and less pronounceable. Look at a recent ingredient list, and I bolded what used to NOT be in there: Cream, Skim Milk, Liquid Sugar, Water, Cherries, Egg Yolks, Sugar, Corn Syrup, Coconut Oil, High Fructose Corn Syrup, etc.

I will never buy Ben and Jerry's at full price, and for a long time wouldn't pay the discounted price of £2.99 or something as I thought this was equally ridiculous.

But a couple years ago I took the plunge, and although I enjoyed the tastes I didn't think they were worth the full price. I also think that the flavours don't really vary that much you have a few different ice cream flavours and then shove in different shaped chocolates and call it another flavour. I have to admit though I like the cookie dough one, however if I could just buy the cookie dough (I seen the stuff on American TV) I would happily just have that instead of the Ice Cream.

I've seen all the UK flavours in local supermarkets (Asda/Tesco) except for the three new ones.

They also have a slightly larger/different range at the cinema B&J concession - now *that* is expensive.

Personally, although I like B&J, I don't think it's that much better than Carte D'Or, or even Tesco own brand. But the B&J frozen yogurt...
