Hybrid CD DVD Discs Coming Soon?
The Record Industry is working on producing a Hybrid disc which is a DVD on 1 side and a CD on the other side. The Hybrid CD/DVD was hoped to be released in the last quarter of 2004 but legal and technical arguments may postpone this till 2005. The idea is to put music on the CD side and concert, interview or recording session video on the DVD side. This gets around the problem?! Of having 2 spearate discs which have been released as special editions of albums.

This was done years ago - can't remember which DVD it was, but I know that there was the movie on the 'A'-side whilst the CD soundtrack was on the 'B'-side...I'm sure this was discussed in the Film forum with regards to 'flipper' discs, if you are desperate to know which one it was...

Sounds like a good idea, except you have to keep both sides clean and I don't know if I could do that

What happens when you've got a few of these, where will they put the label? They'd be getting mixed up all the time, surely.

They put the label in the center of the disc next to where the hole is.

Most SACDs have 5.1 SACD Audio on one layer and Stereo sound tracks on the second layer.. no need for a two sided disc.. I guess the technology has been around for such things involving DVD media but I would imagine its a bit expensive to make..
