Amy's pregnancy predicament...
Heavens Vibe

So, Amy confirmed that her pregnancy was not real, however the Doctor then secretly scans her using the Tardis only to discover that shes semi pregnant flipping between the two.

What does this mean?

Heres my theory.

The Tardis has stated Amy is flipping between pregnant and non pregnant. This corresponds with a quantum mechanics theory/experiment known as Schrödinger's Cat. Which states/shows two events may occur at either 1 or the other or simultaneously provided another external random event/condition occurs. Put into context...Amy can either be Pregnant, Not pregnant or both at once! But...Whats the external random conditions? Heres my possibilities;

1. The Doctor must be killed. (Most plausible IMO)
2. The Silence "impregnated" her (Weird, but she was out for days in their ship...)
3. Rory and Amys history/anatomy is no longer that of a humans, its that of a time traverler and observer of time!
4. Amy's Choice Series 5, Amy made a choice on what she believed was a dream, what if they weren't?

Got a few more theories but my brains discombobulated atm...

Talking about silence impregnating amy could be quiet possible maybe silence new that doctor will tell the world about them and the humans killin the silence and silence would extinc. However amy could be carrying silence inside her as a baby. But let us not forget that doctor who is for young kids too and i dont think that the producers would want to see kids been told about impregnating amy with aliens

Maybe the Doctor is the father of the child and Amy is the mother. That would explain why the child could regenerate - time lord blood in her.

Didn't River say she felt sick in The Impossible Astronought? Could they both be 'half' pregnant? Although I'm not sure how that would be possible...

One thing that I noticed is that the music that plays when River and the Doctor kiss also plays when the little girl starts to regenerate. Could she be River and The Doctors child, half human half Time Lady, or could she even be River?

Could it be that Amy's fetus has been removed from her by the Silence and placed in the astronaut suit as an incubator? Hence the being pregnant/not being pregnant dilemma, maybe the Tardis is still picking up the fetus or residual effects from the pregnancy. Would also fit in with why Amy thought she was pregnant then wasn't, would mean the series could skip the while childbirth scenes and not have the problem of carting around a potentially heavily pregnant companion and the limitations that would impose

I've been talking about this for most of the evening with the bf and our current theory is that the child is some bizarre hybrid:

1. She regenerates (obviously) -Time Lord
2. She's much stronger than normal (ripping out of the spacesuit) which could possibly be Auton from Rory; I think I remember him demonstrating extra strength in The Pandorica Opens and he's suggested in this episode that he is still not human as he remembers the 2000 years.
3. The scanner couldn't quite see the baby and kept 'forgetting' it, as apparently does Amy as when asked about being pregnant she says 'I was. I thought I was. I wasn't.' - Silent?

Please don't ask me to explain how any of that works biologically though

Here are my theories

- Amy is a Timelord
- The child is River Song
- The TARDIS scan was erratic because the child is a time traveller, ala The Time Traveller's Wife, when she keeps miscarrying. The child is jumping through time somehow?

My head is hurting, but I must say, it was one hell of an episode.

Re-watching it, perhaps these lines have another metaphorical context...

Quote:
“NIXON: I understand you have a baby on the way, Mr Grant!

GRANT: Yes, sir!

NIXON: What are you hoping for, a boy or a girl?

GRANT: Just a healthy American, sir.

NIXON: A healthy American will do just nicely!”

Reading too much into it, but I wondered if it was one of those just-so-happens, parallel, wotsit thingies.

My theory is that the TARDIS was erratic because there is a time paradox.

The typical paradox is you go back in time and shoot your grandfather before he has children.

Now because he dies before he has children, you are never born.

However, because you are never born, you can't travel in time to shoot him, so he does have children hence you are born.

But because you are born you do travel back in time etc. etc.

Which leave you in a state of flipping between being born and not being born.

My guess it that there is something which results in a similar paradox around Amy's pregnancy.
