LNB1 out on a Freesat+
I have a Humax Freesat+ connected to a quad LNB.
I am considering buying an Openbox HD receiver to "play" with. At the moment I have a structural problem which makes it difficult to run a third cable into the house - this will get resolved soon. In the meantime I considered taking the existing second cable from the Humax to the Openbox and putting up with the minor limitations of having one feed to the Humax. As an alternative, if I take a link cable from the Humax LNB1 output to the Openbox what problems will I have. I know that only one box can control the polarity of the LNB what what would happen in practice? Any other ideas? |

Not too much of a problem if you just want to play with the box and get used to its UI and quirks but a bit more of a restriction if you actually want to use it. What it means is that your new box would be able to get exactly the same channels as the Humax would if running on a single LNB with loop over cable. |

It would limit you to using whatever band and polarity the Humax has selected on the first LNB.

I use a switch in the supply to Tuner 2, this lets me direct the signal to my PC instead.

Correct if the humax is on, otherwise the looped box should get everything if power saving in sby is off (according to the manual). An alternative is connect the second lnb connection to the new box, fit the loop from tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in and reset the hdr to let it work in single cable mode.
http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/what-...-1-or-2-cables I did use one feed with loop through when I first got the Humax and was surprised just how well it coped. |

http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/what-...-1-or-2-cables Is there something I'm missing? Is it possible to damage either box or the LNB by connecting this way? |

I have have just bought an HDR and have tried looping the LNB1 output to LNB1 on my sky+. I find the sky+ will only receive if I switch the HDR off with the rear mains switch.
Is there something I'm missing? Is it possible to damage either box or the LNB by connecting this way? |

I turned off the power saving and also the HDR with the remote. This resulted in no signal being received on the sky+ until I powered off with the mains switch.

For instance if you tune the hdr to one of these any of the others should be viewable on the Sky box. Code:

Still nothing until I turned ON the power saving and the HDR off with the remote, now I get most channels on the sky+.
The ones I don't get are the ones that are weaker in my area, I'm not in UK. The Humax appears to attenuate the signal from LNB1 in to LNB1 out, is this true? If I connect feed 2 to the sky+ then both boxes are fine. Is it ok to leave the LNB1 out connected to the Sky+ I'm a bit concerned that damage may occur if the LNB gets 2 different commands in respect of voltage. Thank you for your replies Graham. |

Sat tuners with a lnb out should be designed to ignore control signals input at the loop out while the internal tuner is powering the lnb. If your Sky+ box has a card that allows recording you will get a more flexible arrangement by using the hdr in single cable mode, connect the loop out to tuner 2 in and give the Sky+ box it's own feed (reset to switch modes). You can use Dave Murgatroyds dodge to allow scheduled recordings on a Sky+ box with only 1 cable. The hdr on one cable will allow recording of any two in the same frequency band and polarity as tuner 1 is using and third channel viewing of any channel sharing a transponder with either recording. If both are from the same transponder you can view (and time shift) any third channel in the same frequency band/polarity. http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/what-...-1-or-2-cables |
