The main problem with the show is the definaition of talent.
People have thousands of talents around the world (aside from dancing and singing as BGT would have you believe). The problem is only a few talents work as a entertainment format in which people have to fill 3 minutes of telly.

But it is working as a light entertainment show - there are plenty of extremely talented people in different areas, but BGT is looking for ones which fit a family-friendly light entertainment stage show. That's the entire point, so no one should be watching thinking "but where are the talented mathmaticians or film-makers!?", because they don't work on the show.
That said, I do agree in some respect, because I always feel like dance/acts that rely on the viewer watching them are disadvantaged compared to the singers/acts you listen to, because of all the constant cutaways to the judges, Ant & Dec and the audience (is it just me or are they cutting to audience members' reactions more often this year?) - it means that you'll inevitably miss chunks of the dance act, where-as with singers, even if the camera isn't on them you're still hearing their entire act. |
