Cheapest SIM for an iPhone?
I am just at the end of my iPhone 3GS contract and about to order an iPhone 4.
What's the cheapest SIM I could put in in the 3GS so I could continue using it as a 'device' and run some apps on it? Can I just put a free PAYG SIM in it, and continue to use it for apps? I won't need it for calls or data - I will just install apps when at home. |

Firstly get it unlocked if you can. Most providers will do it for free.
If you want if for just PAYG, GiffGaff.com do Unlimited web, Unlimited texts, 250 voice mins, Free 0800/05 numbers as a "Goodybag" (or add-on) for £10 per month. (No contracts) They use the O2 network, so you may even be able to use the sim without unlocking your iPhone...if it is already on O2. www.giffgaff.com for a free sim. Shameless plug: If you use my referal link I get £5 credit and you get £5 free credit too. PM me for it.Edit: Just re-read your OP. You just want it to use for "home use with no data or calls." Go into settings, Simply put it into "airplane mode" then turn wifi on. An airplane icon will appear in the top staus bar. It effectivly becomes an ipod touch then. No need for a sim card at all.

Thanks.
What about apps? Are they locked to the SIM or the phone? Can I buy apps without having a SIM? (presumably I can't share apps with my old and new iPhone. They will be locked to one or the other?) |

Apps are tied into your iTunes account not the sim so will work fine still

Does that mean if I buy an app, I can put it on both iPhones, by synching them both to the same iTunes account? |

And if you're only going to use the 3GS at home, using wi-fi and never need the phone connection, then just leave your old dead SIM in there (you'll have to have a new SIM for the iPhone 4 as it requires a micro SIM and the 3GS takes the regular sized one). |
