Apple's misleading adverts really annoy me, they have already been told off in the past for claiming the iPhone has the "full" internet on it which they had to pull due to the fact the iPhone doesn't support Adobe Flash and therefore not the full internet.

I'm hoping their latest "if you don't have an iPhone" ads are looked as well as they heavily imply (without directly saying) that you can only do things like get a British airways boarding pass app on their phone (when in fact the same app is available on Android as are translation apps).

So this guy has turned the tables with this brilliant reply..

Hmmm. It started off okay, but it was far too long and just turned into a humourless advert for Android.

So would you have no rules regarding adverts then? Say what you want even if it's close to lying?

It's not remotely close to lying - what a foolish thing to say!

Fanboyz are Fanboyz no matter which brand they are espousing.

Unlikely, as the ASA have sided with Apple over this issue before when 10 (yes - just 10) people complained about the 2009 'Only on the iPhone' campaign.

Didn't Apple get into trouble a while back by cutting certain steps from an ad which was showing an app? Making it seem quicker it get the end result than is actually possible?
They've been in trouble twice, once (as you say) for speeding up the video to make the phone look quicker than it was (and couldn't show it again) and again for claiming the iPhone had the 'entire internet' on, the ASA made them pull that ad as a lot of the internet is Flash/Java based and thus unavailable on the iPhone's browser.

I think the iPhone is a brilliant phone, I realy do. I just wish they would advertise the good things about their phone without all the implications that it does something unique etc. Just saw an HTC ad for example and all they did was show you the phone and say what it was good at without pretending other phones don't have similar features...why can't Apple?

Apple already got destroyed in America by the "Droid Does" advertising campaigns, there was an explosion in Android adoption when people actually became aware of the limitations (at the time) of iOS versus Android. Unfortunately, they couldn't run such a campaign here as you're not allowed to compare your product to someone elses, so the British public is still largely unaware of the benefits of Android. I told my girlfriend I was probably going to upgrade to the SGS2 and she didn't know anything about it or the OS, which is pretty disappointing but not surprising.

Yes but a "PC" isn't a manufacturer. They can say Mac vs PC but they can't say Mac vs Windows (which is what they mean by PC in reality).

Apple like to play close to the wind with it's advertising.

but this is my favourite response.
very, very few differences from a well modded jailbroken iphone,

if you dont know about software, you dont know about software
which is hillarious

It's why all adverts for detergents, shampoos, etc always compare their product to the best-selling alternative. It's because company A might claim their product is better than company B's for X reason, then B would turn round and say their's was better for Y reason, and it would just get into a massive slanging match.

Agree you could do this with the majority of adverts on the TV, it was rather boring.

When you say things like that Gormond - iMac 2.8GHz, iPhone 4, iPad 2; do you think that you believe it or do you consciously adopt that position?

Their ads annoy me, especially the "if you don't have an iPhone you don't have iBooks" one. I DO have an iPhone but dont have iBooks on here, much prefer a good old fashioned paper book.

The apple vs android war is just getting boring now.

Yes they can. And some advertisers have already done so. As long as it stays within the bounds of the advertising code.

And the Mac v PC adverts were run in this country with David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

I'm sorry, because I buy Apple products does that suddenly make me a liar?

I enjoyed the latest Southpark episode so I'm not bothered about jokes against any company, including apple but for me that just wasn't very funny... In fact I only watched 3 quarters then turned it off...

iBooks is free and quite handy for a PDF read which is what I use it for.

For actual reading I would use my kindle over both my iPhone and iPad any day as the screen and weight make it much more comfortable.

As mentioned above, "PC" is a generic term for a computer - you could argue that a Mac is also a PC, so those ads made no sense. It was obvious what they meant but by not being explicit they weren't breaking any guidelines.

While you are correct that it is technically allowed, the rules are so restrictive that it's really not worth the effort. There's certainly no way under the guidelines that Apple could claim iOS is better than Android due to the reasons given in their adverts - and similarly, there's no way Google could say Android was better. Any comparison has to be quantifiable and done without disparaging the competitor in any way - which is kinda difficult if you're trying to promote yourself over them due to some aspect they don't do so well...

Don't see why they couldn't run this one here as it doesn't specifically mention the iPhone.
