Setting up a Flat screen TV

I have a Digitrex CFD 2685 combined TV and DVD player, for receiving set top box free satellite stations only. Every time I switch on the TV I get the first time installation box showing, and to get rid I have to press the source button. I don't use DTV, don't have an aerial, only satellite through a Scart lead, and although I've done the initial scan (obviously picking up no DTV channels) this annoying box still appears. Any ideas how to get rid of it? Thanks.

Looks like this is a DSG own brand sold through Dixons, PC World and Currys.

I Googled for a manual or makers website but came up empty-handed. Looks like another poorly made badged TV from an anonymous Turkish/Chinese factory. Lot's of disgruntled owners looking for a refund here

You might be lucky and some other owner will pop up... but I wouldn't hold your breath. Have you tried talking to the retailer who took your money?

Sounds like it defaults to the Freeview tuner when it first turns on rather than the last used source?

Are you turning it on at the plug every time, or just bringing it out of standby?

You may just have to live with pressing the source button. No great hassle surely?

It's probably because it found no freeview channels, so the idiot that wrote the software decided that if there are no stored channels it must need to do a first time install.

If that's the case, you will probably have to live with it.

Can you not provide an aerial so it at least finds some channels, or take it to a friends house with an aerial. I'll bet once it has stored just a few channels, you won't get that start up message

Perhaps it would be happy with finding just one analogue channel? In which case plug in a VCR in to the aerial socket and let it find the UHF output from that.

Good idea. Make sure the VCR is playing a tape so it's presenting a real tv picture.

Or if the satellite receiver has a modulator use that. Sky boxes usually have one, not sure about other types.
