It used to be that a cover version might appear as a bonus track on an album, not the defining song of their career.
She's murdered Your Song by falling into the trap of let's all sound twee and girly because I can't really sing (check out on youtube the girly video of the song which presumably she agreed to release) and then compare it to Elton singing it properly on Piers Morgan. He blows her away. It's a disgrace that he wasn't asked to play it at the party bearing in mind his close friendship with Lady Di.You have to "larf " at all the common cockneys outside the gates and all the toffs inside celebrating that the unwashed outside still believe that Eton/Harrow don't rule the UK.
Ellie's voice and lack of melody is so annoying.Oh well we can always bring back Lilly Allen (aka the secret sloane) when she's ready to "surprise" us wiv her come back and no doubt she will continue to pretend she's a commoner and wasn't educated in Knightsbridge.

I totally agree, how very dare they book who they want to sing at their own wedding. Outrageous.

'Bright Lights' is a fantastic album. I think she's a better song writer than singer though.

Not my cup of tea but if they want to have her sing at their party then good for her.

She released Your Song to coincide with the John Lewis ad, it was hardly her fault that the public then started buying it and made it her biggest song to date.

I think she's got a very unique voice and i love 'Bright Lights'!

Not overrated at all, in fact, I'd say underrated. I will admit the album takes a while to get into but its one of my all time favourites now, the songs never get old and shes a superb song writer. I don't really like Your Song but every song by her is beautiful.

i'm not a fan either, and i detest her version of your song, but didn't the royals want adele first but she wasn't up for it? i'm not sure it was a class thing that they had her if thats what you're getting at.

Not much of a fan but I like Lights and Under the Sheets. Your Biggest Mistake (off the album) is not bad either. I don't like either version of Your Song.

I like Ellie Goulding. Starry Eyed, The Writer and Wonderman are brilliant imo.

Her voice is odd. Out of tune but not that much out of tune.... Like a sober Amy Winehouse without talent.

When she played at the Brixton Academy she didn't sing a note live, speaking with the sound guys her mike was off during the songs and the backing track was way up!

The Royals' tastes are pretty iffy but then I wouldn't expect anything less...

I don't understand the hate. Say what you want about the songs, but the girl can sing.

She appears to get a lot of 'help' when singing live....

I've never understood what all the fuss is about with her. She's never done anything to live up to the hype she enjoyed, and her voice is rather uncomfortable to listen to

She's not my kind of thing but she seems like a nice girl and she's talented. She's Will & Kate's favourite artist. How dare they ask her to perform and not Elton John?

Well I don't get that because she's usually brilliant live and definitely does sing. Maybe she had lost her voice and instead of cancelling the show just blagged it with the backing track??

I quite like her first song `beneath the sheets' but the rest is easily forgotten; it's too middle of the road for my liking. Vocally, she's a weaker version of the front lady of Catatonia.
