Thinking of getting an iPhone
I'm thinking of getting an iPhone, are they as good as they made out to be? Is it worth getting one?
Is this a good deal? http://phone-shop.tesco.com/tesco-mo...Id=-1&TypeId=1 |

i'd go for the 4 instead of 3GS, you can getting the same contract from tesco as you posted above for it although the phone cost is more expensive.

Not the best place to ask TBH as there is many Apple haters on these forums that will tell you the iPhone is overpriced crap and you should get an Android phone.
Personally I'm a fan of iOS and prefer it to the Android platform but only you can decide what phone you want, Go into a mobile phone shop and have a play with the latest handsets and see which one you like. On another note you would be better to get an iPhone 4 as it's fairly better spec wise or wait until September and get the rumoured iPhone 5. |

No, no and no.
But seriously that model is dated now. No flash on the camera so you won't be able to take pictures unless outside and seriously £258 upfront and £25 a month for a 3GS????? You would have to be an idiot to buy it. Surely you can get an iPhone 4 for cheaper than that (if you must have an iPhone) but personally I'd advise getting a Droid either the HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy S2 which you can get for a lot cheaper than that and you'll be getting the latest tech. Read this article which sums up the benfits of iOS, Android and Windows 7 mobile and see which one meets your description best... http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic...Windows_Phone_ If you want to feelpart of the 'hip crowd' buy an iPhone, but be prepared to spend over the odds and pay for most apps. If you want more freedom, more free apps, widgets, Adobe Flash and not restricted to what Google think you should or shouldn't be allowed to install on your phone then get an Android. |

Most Android users say they won't consider buying an iPhone because they "hate Apple."
How accurate is that statement though? I mean I wouldn't say I 'hate Apple' but I would answer that I hate Apple's dictatorial software and restrictions. It should be up to the user to decide if they want to use Adobe Flash or view adult content not Steve Jobs. But would that answer be taken as me "hating Apple"? |

You could go to a phone shop that sells the iPhone and try it out? I've got a iPhone and I love it but I do like Apple products, so...

Have a look through the slides, and you'll encounter such gems as 'What would make you buy a non-iPhone' with the possible option of "Nothing. I live in the reality distortion field"; and 'What would make you buy an iPhone' with the not at all biased, leading answer "Nothing. I hate Apple". Personally I'd recommend Android, but that's because I'm now on my third Android phone in just under as many years, and am very impressed with them. However, I wouldn't use that bullpies survey as a reason for not going for the iPhone. |

To the original poster. If you want an iPhone, get one as you won't regret it. It's not as bad as some posters will make you believe....looking at the one above on this! I've owned one for two years and personally, wouldnt go and use anything else. Ultimately, it's each to their own but dont fall for the sales pitch of some folk.

When I get time in between work and that I'll pop into town. In the meantime, this is interesting.

Possibly your last paragraph that just made you sound like an Android fanboy.
I have probably used iOS more than Android at this point in time. I just prefer Android's freedom and customisation....oh and widgets (Apple will have to borrow that idea on the iPhone 5 IMO - alrthough they'll probably call it something else and pretend it's different like the did with video calling...I mean 'face time' )Quote:
Typical yawnsome reply from you. Do you get paid commission to sell Android phones by any chance or are you just some sad loser who sits and plays with his HTC phone in envy at premium models like what Apple produce/

But for me, I prefer the customisation and freedom of Android. I'd end up Jail breaking an iPhone if I had one as for me the lack of customisation would bore me after a while. Quote:

In the past two years I've had a Nokia, an LG an HTC and a Samsung because I consider my purchase each time and don't just loyally follow one brand like a sheep. Quote:

http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2011/04...xy-s-2-review/ I know I will be accused of fanboyism but I think the SGS2 will be the phone of this year and most reviews (i.e tech magazines that aren't biased like me think so too from all the reviews I have read). Even iPhone fanboys Engadget said it was the best phone on the market today. Quote:

Nothing to do with insecure, it's the blatant Apple hate fuelled posts like that that that make threads like these pointless.

But what did you factually disagree with? And for information I've only owned one Android, my current phone so I'm hardly a fan boy...yet I suspect you've had the iPhone 1,2,3 and 4 am I right?
Both have their good and bad points IMO. Android is more open but has more fragmentation because of the variety of phones available, also the OS feels less polished to me and the battery life on the Desire was less than my iPhone 4. Also the amount of good quality paid games and apps is less IMO even though there are more free apps available. iOS does have its negatives too though, It could really use Widgits that Apple have had in OSX for 6 years. Having to jailbreak to install what you want can also be annoying especially for the less tech savy. Also I would like a system for plugins and codecs. This was why my initial response was to try the phones in the shops as I don't believe 1 phone for all exists. For the text message and social network crazy I would recommend the new blackberry for example. |

Just because you can't change the battery, memory card, has poor battery life and poor signal retention I would rule out the Apple. If fashion was a concern I'd not buy the Apple as they are last years design, very passé these days, plus they are too common, all the yobs in my town have them, common as muck (yob and phone). They are a good phone...but...we move on.
I would look at any of the top end Androids this way you get a nice range of different models and your not stuck with just one. My lad has a Windows HD7 which is worth looking at, very slick in operation, my daughter has gone the Galaxy route and son in law is on iPhone 4 until he can switch to Windows when his contract finishes. I use an old G1 which does all I need and a Nokia 3310; I don't hate Apple, just think there are better options these days. |

Also other comments you make are silly, how often do you change a battery? most people don't and even then its 2 screws, hardly rocket science! also the phone comes with 16GB or 32GB storage so why would you want to change the memory? Also I think the iPhone kills most Android phones in battery life tests... it seems as if you have just complained for the sake of it. I see far more Android phones now compared to iPhones so I would argue they are more common with "yobs" as you put it. In fact I see more Blackberrys than both! |
