Its also amazing to think that Gone with the Wind made $390 million world wide in 1939! During that time if a movie made $50 million it was considered a big success.
I don't like Gone with the Wind, but it is very impressive.

It held the record until Jaws came along. Jaws made $450 million worldwide. Its also the movie that introduces the blockbuster.

Jaws only had that record for 2 years when Star Wars came along. That movie made $775 million dollars worldwide. People had never seen a movie make that much. It must have felt the same as when Avatar made 2.7 billion worldwide.
