BT exchange line in 'parked' condtion
I'm currently experiencing ndt problems with my landline where it appears to go into a 'parked' condition, giving an out of service message to incoming callers. Occasionally it will restore itself, only to re-appear again some time later.
Irrespective of the initial cause of the fault at present (as yet undetermined, but still with BT for testing), my query is this - in general terms should the line revert to normal working once a fault condition is rectified (for example, a handset replaced if left off-hook for some time) or does it require the exchange to eventually release the parked condition automatically before service is restored? |

Depends whether the fault is electromechanical on your subscriber unit at phone exchange - once fixed will self correct - . or "somewhere higher up" in the BT software .........

Thanks. My own thoughts were that it should release back to service once any fault condition cleared, which it wasn't doing, as I was able to get it to fail by deliberately causing a parked condition by leaving the handset off-hook for some time.
Hopefully though it's now been cleared (fingers crossed!). The line went down completely (disconnected both legs) for about 1.5 hours on Thursday afternoon, and although I was unable to gain any info from BT as to what was done, I suspect (hope) that either the line card or the EN was changed, and even trying the off-hook test I'd done previously, the line restored straight away, which was a good sign. So far it's been working ok |

I keep having problems with my master socket, near outer door, due damp regularly causing corrosion & failure (what git designed a non-waterproof socket?!). Recently left home 4 days, as was leaving house managed to pull phoneline wires out (and had to get train .....).
Returning, replaced old socket with new NE5, and half expected to find line dead since had been disconnected 4 days, but was fine! |
