Just wondering if anyone can tell me if the warranty with a Sony Ericcsson phone is actually on the handset (ie manufacture date) or is it proof of purchase?

Interested in buying a relatively new Xperia phone second hand but will not have proof of original purchase so was hoping Sony would honour warranty (if anything did go wrong) based on the handset itself like other manufacturers do.

I thought it would be proof of purchase, however, Sony ericsson may be able to track the phone by imei number to see which retailer it was sold to, and when the phone was sold, if they wanted to.

But if u look at the battery compartment; there should be a black sticker with YEAR and week number, listed as YYwWK

On my xperia x10 it says 10w26, presumably thats week 26 of 2010.

i brought a Sony Ericsson last year from a lady off ebay it went faulty (Known fault as well) Sony phones have 2year warranty if you look in the manual i telephoned Sony they would not help unless i sent/showed them receipt for the phone they would not back down i said to Sony you know the phone is still under warranty because its only been out for few months in the end the lady off ebay sorted the repair via vodafone from who she had the phone from on contract. Ask for copy of receipt
