Quite like the look of the white HTC desire, I have seen it for £250 on PAYG however I was wondering whether you could tell me whether this was a good deal?

1) Has it been this price for long?

2) I don't need a 'super powerful' phone (I have an iPad 2).. but something better than my orange san franciso would be nice (its running a custom 2.2 rom, but it's lag and ugliness get on my nerves).

So, would you say this was worth it for £250, or should I spend a bit more on one of the new ones?

thanks

Have you also looked at the HTC Wildfire as an alternative?

I was thinking the same, thanks

Considered it but don't think it'd be much of a step up from the san francisco?

It's quite a step down from the Desire. If they OP is looking for performance then the Desire's a better choice.

£250 is a good price.
You can always spend more, but value for money, that price is hard to beat.

I saw the offer on phones4u I think, although this looks pretty similar. Any idea which would be the better retailer to purchase from?

I used dialaphone once a few years ago and had no problems with them at all, very fast delivery and a very good price.

Hell, seeing that price i myself might get a HTC Desire.

Don't go for the wildfire if you want a higher res screen as the San Francisco has a higher res screen than the wildfire.

I have a Desire and even with newer phones being released all the time, i still think the Desire is a great phone.

I wouldn't spend £250 on a year old Android phone especially in such a rapidly changing sector. The Desire is the sister phone to my Nexus One and I certainly wouldn't pay that much, even though it's a good phone, because there's so much better around now. The new upgraded Desire S is only £350 on O2.

Desire is a great phone and since you seem to know about custom ROMs etc then there are a lot of great options for the Desire which keep it up to date with all the new phones. Currently running InsertCoin which is a mix of Sense 2.1 and 3.0 on Gingerbread.

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to up my budget and have narrowed down to either a desire S or an incredible S.. which would you go for? thinking of the incredible due to the larger screen, but quite like the unibody finish of the desire..

I would vote for the Desire S - for the unibody and for the smaller screen (meaning better battery life). I think internals are virtually the same as incredible S. It's just a slightly smaller version of it.
