No crisps, cakes, sweets, very little chocolate.

At least 3 balanced meals per day, in a moderate portion, and stop eating when you are full.

Avoid eating too late at night.

EXERCISE.

Don't expect to like the mirror instantly, it'll take at least a couple of months, and should continue at a moderate pace.

Be careful not to eliminate too many foods. As you do not eat meat and also fish & eggs (i presume) then you need to make sure you are still getting all the nutrients required.

Focus on portion size - keep it small and eat every 3 hours (fruit or low fat natural yogurt) to stop blood sugar levels rising and dropping. If you halve your portion size for each meal, you must surely lose weight.

No need to stop pasta and rice altogether, just choose wholewheat options and again, keep the portions to those on the packet - about 90g per person for pasta. Choose sweet potato or butternut squash instead of white potatoes.

The odd slice of brown bread won't hurt, but i would try to cut it out totally for first month of your diet.

Water helps to stop bloating and constipation, common when you change diet and leads to weight gain, so drink plenty, 1.5 litres minimum.

I lways wonder this. Diets aren't really made for vegetarians. They always suggest a pile of meat with each food serving.

Ideal diet have protein with each meal (for a veggie this will be eggs or beans/ pulses) and eat with rice/ potato/ pasta to mix teh two together forms amino acids with helps absorb the protein. I read this online and hope I got that right when I went through a phase of trying to lose weight.
Protein fills you up for longer apparently.I'm yet to get a full effect from anything other than a mountain of food.

As someone else said in stead of going for the traditional 3 meals a day go for 6 but just make them smaller. Rather than get over stuffed 3 times a day get rid of the hungry feeling 6 times a day. I heard once that a fork full of food should be enough to abstain hunger for a while- this should give you an idea on portion size.

Make sure you get enough protein and fat. What about nuts? They are good for protein and fat. I always carry some in case I am stranded and get peckish. Coconut is also high in fat and a good snack. Personally I am dubious about soya.

dubious about soya - why

I have drunk soya milk for years - why can it be any more dubious than cows milk?
I eat other soya products but not to the detriment of other food groups - protein from beans and lentils etc etc and these can all be made low fat, suitable for weight loss.

You can get all food groups through a vegetarian diet.

I'm having the same issue. I tried cutting out carbs completely, but when you're vegetarian that doesn't leave tooo much else.

The thing that made the most difference to me was making a HUGE effort not to eat in the 5 hours before I went to bed. I could definitely notice results, even after a few weeks.

If you are serious about vegetarian slimming either buy or go to the library and get Rose Elliots Vegetarian Slimming book and do it properly (there is one on Amazon for £2.89 at the moment) or choose one by Judith Wills - also on Amazon for the same price.
Yes I have done it and lost a lot of weight.

If you like it, tofu is an amazing ingredient in dishes.
Tempeh is also brilliant on a diet.

You need to exercise most days of the week, and eat 6 small healthy meals per day. Green tea can help too. It speeds up the metabolism.
