Herbie Armstrong
Rick Shutterman

Apologies if this has already been mentioned either on the forum or, indeed, in the media.

One of the entries, on BGT, last weekend was an Irish singer/songwriter by the name of Herbie Armstrong. Straightaway I remembered the name as one of the people behind the 70's pop groups 'Fox' and 'Yellow Dog'. So I dug out my old vinyl and there he was on the covers large as life. Ok he had much longer hair and was 30 years younger, but it was definitely him.

Interestingly 'Fox' has featured on two of the TOTP re-runs on BBC4 with their last hit 'S-S-S-Single Bed' which 'Armstrong wrote.
So, despite claiming to have been always a session musician, he did have a couple of years in the limelight. He even had a solo single, 'Love Ship' which, although good flopped.

He was absolutely shit on BGT and only got through 'cause he's an old man and got a bit of pity.

I thought he was very good. I really liked him!

Regarding his 'solo' career, he was probably told to hype up the story by people on the show (don't know for sure, just speculating).

I still like him, even though he's gone solo before, because he didn't have much success then and if he get something out of BGT now, then good for him!

Afraid I have to agree ... I found his voice quite .... painful.

I've found all the singers quite lacklustre so far .. infact the auditions overall which I think can only explain the over excitement at the mediocre acts ...

He was awful. Its britains got talent not a comeback show. He shouldnt be allowed to have another chance. Might at well have Alvin Stardust up there if he#s already had hits
