my kittybum has just been sat on my lap and i notice a lil black bug on my top, as i went to touch it, it jumped away!
I assume this was a flea but dont know where it went!
Me an my fiance have just treated him with bob martin all in one flea spray along with the sofas. We are going to get him a new flea collar this afternoon!
What i am worried about is 'the one that got away' we dont have carpet (laminate flooring). Is there anything else we should do for the kittybum and/or the house? I hate fleas ewww they make my skin crawl!
Thanx in advance for any advice

The vet used her hand to flick my sister's cat fur and comb some onto white paper. If you notice black dots that is flea eggs.

Luckily our kitten is mostly white and flea-free.

i noticed last night he had a lil patch of what looked like dandruff but it had gone this morning. He does knock about with what we think is a stray cat so hes probably picked them up from him/her. He always wears a flea collar so i cant understand it! Although there was only 1 flea that i saw so hopefully we caught it early!

I would use bob martins only use either adovacate or frontline. Its not worth using the supermarket cheap ones too be honest there useless. Wait a couple of weeks at least after the last flea treatment and use a more stronger one. Also dont use a flea collar at the same time as frontline it can overdose the kitten. If you are flea treating the house i use a product called indirex all the other products i have used dont work. You could use a cheap flea collar too put in the hoover that picks up any little things that might jump. Flea eggs looks likes little grains of sugar, The next stage is the larve which looks like very tiny wriggly worms. Then its the flea. I have got 15 cats and have too treat them every 6wks or so. I also spray the house at the same time.

OP, I think another good thing to do in addition to using flea sprays is to vacuum regularly at least once a day and make sure you vacuum over cracks and crevices that may be in the flooring or furniture as flea eggs get into them and hatch out.

I was thinking about getting a 3rd cat but thought maybe 3 is a crowd but on reading that you have 15, perhaps not.
What's it like having 15 cats, are they all related to each other?

i didnt realise bob martin was a cheap brand tbh, weve used that in the past but then hes never had fleas before...i did make a point of hoovering like a maniac afterwards! Kittybum is 18 months, should i still not put a flea collar on him? Ive had a bit of a look through his fur and cant see any eggs/lavae or fleas so i'm hoping we did manage to catch it early! He is currently skulking round the house looking like a hobo lol.

I also spray the hoover bags and filter with flea spray once the bag has been used, I would not use the Bob Martin flea treatment either as I found it was useless tbh, as Maisey has already said use the Frontline and do not use a flea collar at the same time. Spray all the cats bedding/baskets at regular intervals with a quality spray, this helps a lot I have found.

I have kado, Guinness, Lucky, Gabby not related.
Maisey moo(mum) Peaches, Spirit,vera,(daughters)Chunky (son)
Vera, Diamond(daughter),Garfield and Stalker(sons)
Smokey(vera's childrens Dad) so we call him the son in law

There all get on most of the time and all apart from Garfield and stalker are neutered/speyed and chipped.

5 of them are out doorish cats they come in when i call them and the rest stay inside. Some dont want too go out some have not got any road sense and it would put them and others in danger.

Get another cat i would.

Bob Martins give your poor pussy cat fits and can kill.

Advocate for your pussy and Indorex for the house are the best treatments.

You can get these from the vets.

surely they wouldnt be allowed to sell it if it was dangerous to them? I have used it before in the past and never had a problem. I can understand if maybe it doesnt work as well as other brands but surely if its dangerous they wouldnt market it for use on animals?

Most of the none vets dont work. Believe i have tried them. It also doesnt work if your cat is over a certain size. Some also only kill live fleas and not the eggs as well. I once had no choice too use bob martins spot on wormer. She had a realy bad reaction too it where it was put. To be honest the frontline and avocate is not that much dearer than the bob martins. It also depends on your cats size as well most spot ons only work on cats upto 6kgs. That is why i only use frontline combo or advocate as well. My guinness is over 9kgs and we have too use whats for his size with the others. You can also not put 2 doses on at the same time.

no i would never double dose. Ive used the spot on for him and he seemed fine although he does have a small (size of a 5p) bald patch on his shoulder but it looks like a birth mark on his skin and im sure i didnt miss the back of his neck, but maybe it is related!
Luckily im off work at the mo so will pop to the vets and see what they think/recommend. Cant believe he caught fleas in the first place we're always very vigilant with the flea collars (obviously theyre not enough). I feel like ive let him down poor kittybum

Someone told me a simple test to see if cat has fleas -
Dampen a white kitchen towel or similar and rub it over your cats fur - wait for a few moments and if the black specks turn red it indicates flea poo meaning fleas are present.

When we got my latest cat, he was absolutely covered in fleas like i have never seen on a cat before and i have had cats all my life - it wasnt a particularly clean place that he came from, which is kind of why we took him in! I could literally sit with the tweezers and pull 20 off him at a time!

I tried various cheaper treatments but the only thing that worked was frontline - the drops that you put on the back of their necks - did a great job. They are more expensive but worth it.

I had a cat once that was allergic to Frontline Spot On. He scratched all the fur off the back of his neck until there was a raw bleeding patch. Took him to the vet and he had to have his back paws bandaged up to stop him scratching. He used to walk around shaking his back legs and hissing.

As well as hoovering you could try a flea fogger

Pop into your vets and pick up a recommended flea spray. They cost about £15. Can't remember the name of them but they work. I have laminate flooring and they will still survive. Fleas can survive for up to two years so you need to treat your house or they will lay eggs and ewww. My two are given Stronghold every month (prescription only) and this works. I agree with others in that supermarket/shop flea treatments don't work. Also collars can cause irritation and loss of fur and my vet told me that Bob Martins can be toxic to many cats as well as fairly usesless at getting rid of fleas.

One of mine likes to visit some ropey old shed visited by all the strays and he's picked up a few passengers before now. The thing with Stronghold and Frontline is that whilst the fleas hop on, they will soon hop off as they can't stand the taste of the blood. I noticed them as a couple of anemic looking fleas had hopped off of him as soon as he got into his hammock. I was pretty happy he was ok because of the Stronghold but I treated my whole house with the can of spray and have never seen them since.

Firstly, you named your cat Kittybum?

Secondly, flea collars are useless. See a vet and buy whatever they recommend.

ok so i just attacked the kittybum with the flea comb and got 5 fleas in an hour im still waiting 2 b able 2 frontline him and have been hoverin constantly but my fiance is being bitten on the ankles! So this has proven that bm doesnt work
im jus going to keep combing him every day (and hoovering house) until i am allowed to use the frontline
