oh and yes, my cat's full name is yojojo kittybum!!!”

Buy the spray!! Fleas can live for up to 2 years...and they don't live on your cat but on soft furnishings. They hop on to your cat when they need the blood. Then they hop off again and lay their eggs. All that will happen if you treat your cat but not your home is that they will keep biting you.

Seriously, if you buy Indirex (remembered the name), it doesn't smell and it's over and done with in a couple of hours. Spray all the floors paying attention to skirting boards and all the cat's bedding, your sofas, curtains, etc and then go out for an hour (best leave windows shut). When you return, have a good hoover and you'll be surprised at how quickly they will go. Also, empty your hoover bag/cylinder as they will live in there too.

i have already bought the spot on and spray but i thought i had 2 wait 2 weeks because i have already treated kittybum and i dont want to over dose him? But im just trying to limit the damage by combing him and hoovering the house while i wait for the 2 weeks to be up.
Its doin my head in i hate seein him scratch and bite

House Flea Spray. The Flea Spray I'm talking about is for your home, not for your cat. It's called Indirex and they sell it in the vets. I believe it's perfectly safe to use whilst you are waiting to treat your cat again.

yes when i say flea spray i mean indorex. The vets have said i have 2 wait to treat him again...ive just pulled another 8 fleas off him with the comb i just wana get rid of them asap dont want to have to wait another week but i know i have to im at my wits end!
Is there anything else i can do to minimise them while i wait other than hoovering and combing every day? Its just lucky im off work atm to sort it properly.

Vet said its not worth treating house until kittybum has been treated otherwise the eggs could still drop off him and hatch even with the indorex!

Have never heard of that before.

she just said it would be best to treat both together to avoid re-infestation as not treating the source would just keep the cycle going,
is it bad that i just want to treat kittybum now and not wait? My skin is crawling thinking about fleas and eggs and lavae and pupae eeewww i feel sick. And poor kittybum is missing the cuddles he deserves coz i wont touch him without gloves and the comb in my hand

As far as I can see, there's no harm in treating your house with the Indirex..then treating your cat when the time is up. It may be that you need to retreat your house (but I doubt it) but if you confine your cat to one room until the time you can frontline him and don't use all the can of Indirex in the meantime, this should not set you back any further money.

As said before the fleas live in soft furnishings and only jump on your cat when they want to feed. They lay eggs in soft furnishings. What you see on your cat is invariably flea-poo and not eggs.

Personally, I would:

1) spray your whole house with indirex, paying particular attention to where your cat goes/sleeps
2) confine your cat to one room
3) treat your cat when the time is up/available
4) wash his bedding on a hot wash (or ideally dispose of it) and then spray it again
5) watch for other fleas in your home after 3) and if they reappear repeat step 1) again.

Good luck.

BTW if you don't treat your house now, they could be laying eggs all over the place and you could be faced with getting rid of 2million rather than 2000 in waiting for the time to treat your cat. You will get rid of them but it makes it harder all the time you don't erradicate those in your house and your cat is a blood-supply.

yeh i thought the vets explanation was a bit backwards but being a 1st time cat owner i didnt want to argue with her.
I have also phoned back and asked about getting him wormed tomorrow and a good all over check up! I just felt useless after usin the bm crap (seriously cant beleive they are allowed to sell it). Well lets hope i can come back next week and say that kittybum is happy, healthy and flea free.

thanks maiseymoo, i named him after my nephews favorite waybaloo character, and then the nick name of kittybum came later and has stuck. My vets can't get thier head around his name and call him ROJOJO not YOJOJO lol.

*Update: I am way too impatient and have started spraying the house with the indorax so far have done the bathroom and the 2 spare bedrooms, I have ordered another can of indorex to re-treat the whole house after we are able to treat the kittybum that way I wont be petrified of any missed eggs hatching and re-infesting our life. Still chasing the cat round with the flea comb but he has got onto me now and runs when he see's the comb haha. I got another 8 fleas off of him yesterday and only 1 today ( I definately think there are more lurking in his fur).
My fiance found 4 more bites on his leg yesterday so hopefully after the spray today they should go away.
Does anyone know why only my fiance and the kittybum have been bitten? I haven't been touched that I know of....doesn't stop me being sh*t scared of them though.

Thanks for all of your advice, hopefully we are starting to get on top of it now

Some people get bit some dont. I am the one the usual gets bit. You can tell if you realy have a lot of them if you walk through a room with white socks on they will jump on them. Also hoover up the rooms for about a week.

yeah I have been hoovering like a demon. I have only physically seen the ones that I have pulled off the cat and that 1 that was crawling on my top. I have pulled another 8 off the cat today .
I must have been well wrong thinking we had caught it early as thats about 30 from the kittybum in 3 days...I feel so so sorry for him.
Meant to call the CPL today about the stray but didn't get round to it what with being a 1 woman flea swat team and all, but i definately need to do it otherwise kittybum will just keep catching them from him/her. Just can't get close enough when I see it for it to see I am trying to help and offering food, it takes 1 look and legs it poor lil thing must be crawling with them if kittybum is anything to go by.

Please, get some Indorex and treat the house. You seem to be able to get it on-line, for example:

O/T I just love sitting in the vet`s waiting room when the vet comes out and shouts the animals name together with ones surname

i.e. Banjo Smith.

As in my previous posts i have already bought 2 cans of indorex and have started to treat my house today! 1 can has only done the upstairs and the stairs so im waiting on the second can that i ordered today from vetuk. Still combin kittybum and hoovering everyday sometimes twice a day just to keep them under control until i can treat the cat with the effipro after using the crappy bob martin stuff!

yeah its hilarious you see them read his name on the paper and then just decide to call my surname...best part is when me and someone else stand up together and theyre forced to call 'ROJOJO KITTYBUM WILLIAMS' and the whole waiting room sniggers lol!

My vets always laugh well try not too when i take mine in. Somewhere down the line there turned double barrell. So if i take vera in its vera crocker-payne. the looks i get is so funny. I do have cats with human names it just happened i liked the names so picked them. Though i do know a cat called woof woof.

woof woof is great i love it! We went a bit ott when we got the kittybum he ended up with about 8 middle names but i kept forgettin them so settled with the yojojo kittybum version lol! It would be a nightmare if we double barreled his surname:
YOJOJO KITTYBUM GOODCHILD-WILLIAMS hahaha (although he's anything but a goodchild hence one of his middle names was sh*tbag at one point. For now hes known as fleabag by my fiance lol)
whoever,hey

Thats scare mongering!! Because it doesn't matter how many there are when they are still on her cat which she cant treat. The vet is talking logical sense rather than faltering at the whims of people scared of creepy crawlies!

The vet is talking about the most practical way of dealing with the problem.

Our cat, Misha caught fleas.

The OH has been bitten, luckily they don't seem to like me

Yesterday I went to the vets and pet shop and fully armed with spray, shampoo, powder for the carpet and drops to put on him we launched an assault this morning.

He sensed something was wrong when he tried to get through the cat flap which is always open as he spends most of his life outdoors.

Cue me and the OH in a small bathroom washing a very pissed off moggy (I got the short straw and had to hold him, much scratches)

Job done, hopefully the end.

It's funny, during his bath he was so pathetic, crying and wailing. Afterwards after being dried he made a point of sitting in front of us licking himself like mad. This evening, it is like he feels cleaner and is parading about like an king.
