Well done BBC, you've done it again! (2 yrs running and on the same race!)

It's not rocket science but the Beeb can't seem to manage it. Since they have spread qualifying across BBC2/BBC HD and the race on BBC1/BBC1 HD, the series timer IDs are different and don't therefore link up.

So if, like me, you usually just go to the Saturday qualifying and just set a series timer event off of that one program and expect it to also pick up the race the next day, it won't! You'll need to set up two separate ones instead. Beware!

Interestingly, this looks like it's a Freesat+ only thing specific to their EPG because on my Freeview+ Sony HXD860, the Saturday qualifying on BBC2 and the actual race on Sunday BBC1 are series linked correctly so perhaps I was rushing to judgement that it was actually the Beeb's fault!

Qualifying BBC 2 - KTGN13 / 7A36JY
Qualifying BBC HD - KU82HM / 7A36JY
Race BBC 1 WM - KTGN13 / 7A36L2
Race BBC 1 HD - KTGN3M / 7A36L2

The above are the Freesat Series and Program CRID's. Freeview ones are exactly the same except that they only have a Series CRID.

As can be seen the SD versions of the qualifying and race are linked with the same series CRID but the HD simulcasts both have have different series CRID's. So anyone who normally records teh SD version will find that there existing series link is OK but those with a HD series link will have to set a one off for the qualifying on BBC HD.

Well spotted! I don't normally bother with the SD versions since it came on in HD this year...

However, I remember last year's Malaysian GP (in April) when the Beeb messed about with the channels and actually ended up splitting the race across BBC1 & 2 and made a right dog's dinner of it all!!

Thank you. The Missus will be very grateful that I will not be grumpy for missing it!
