Wetherspoons not the cheapest in town!
Wetherspoons in my opinion is not the cheapest pub chain to go to anymore. There are others such as Scream pubs, Toby Carvery and Hungry Horse that offer better quality food at the same or lower prices.
For example the Beef and Ale pie now seems to be around the £7.10 mark (it was around £5.49 last year) Steak and Kidney Pudding around £4,99 (it was as low as £2.99 last year) Beer & Burger (standard) seems to vary around the £6.10 mark, if you want extras in this the price goes over the £7 mark. Scream may start their Beer & Burger promotion at 3pm however £5.95 is the price you pay for their top offering (equivilent to the Gourmet Burger at Wetherspoons). A pint of Stella (if you drink that) is around £3.30ish - not much less than other pub chains. Prices also seem to vary venue to venue. Even ones that are a few minutes away from each seem to vary in price, again Scream and Hungry Horse seem to have a consistant pricing policy across all pubs wherever they are in the country. Even chains such as Chef & Brewer and Beefeater are not much more expensive and the food quality is much much higher! I thought the idea behind no music at Wetherspoons was to keep the prices down? It seems no longer this is the case. Taxation and rising costs may be partly to blame as well as trying to make a profit, however If other chains can offer better quality food at lower prices it is about time that Wetherspoons started looking for other suppliers! Some may say a pointless rant but any others agree? |

I think it could be a regional thing cos I got a full Ulster fry in Wetherspoons this morning for 99 pence not including tea. the other prices that you are quoting would be near as damnit double what I pay in Wetherspoons.

How does not having music keep the prices down exactly? Apart from saving on money paid to PRS which is hardly significant.
Booze is the reason to go to Wethers, not the food. I go for both, although Real Ale is still reasonably priced, other drinks such as lagers are not so anymore. |

thanks for posting up the info, when did the prices change on the lagers? do you know if fosters has gone up?
The last time I glanced at their drinks price menu Stella was £3.30 a pint, Fosters is around £2.90-£3ish I would assume. Next time I go I will take a look. The most expensive Wetherspoons are in London "City centre" The one for example near the Tower of London is around £1 more expensive for food than the one near Tower Bridge on the south of the River (a five minute walk away). |
