You're not the only one. Happens to me too. I just charge it every night and it lasts me through to the next evening. I could never get a full weeks use out of it unless I only used it for 30 minutes a day!

It should last longer then that. This is an iPod Touch? http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html
Check you don't have apps running in the background, also try turning WiFi off when you don't need it, and turning your brightness down a bit - if it's still happening even without use, could be you need to take it to Apple.

Harsh, but true. lol.

On a serious note, my iPod touch lasts ages without charging. Try resetting it and if that fails then get it checked out by Apple.

The OP is obviously playin a lot of games on it. Games kill the battery life

A day's use for a smartphone is about average to be honest.

If you've got things auto-syncing, location services on and regularly play games and use apps then it'll easily drain the battery inside a day.

If you use it for video, gaming and internet you'll get about 4 hours. If you have the screen off and listen music I think it's over 20.

1. enable auto screen brightness and reduce the brightness slider down to under 1/4 of the max (it will still be more than bright enough most of the time), the screen backlight uses quite a lot of power. You may need to up the brightness slider a bit in bright daylight as the auto-adjustment seems to have a limit to how high it will go.

2. turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not actively being used, that allows the device to turn off those circuits therefore saving additional power.

Those two steps will help avoid unnecessary battery usage.

After that it should work as intended: one day of normal use after which you charge it to 100% every night in readiness for the following day. Note that normal use does not include extended periods of playing games (which tend to be very heavy on the CPU) and especially not 3D games (which also cause the GPU to draw a lot of power). Three or four hours of heavy-duty gaming can drain it completely. If your intention is to use it as a mobile gaming device on a long journey, you'll need to invest in an external battery pack to provide additional power (there's plenty of them available and they're quite cheap).

Yup power saving features ...

No phone is going to last that long if you use it all day. These are computers, like having a laptop open all day, it would never last a week. Any week figure is from using the thing exclusively as a phone..most of the time on standby.

You ahve to be a very light smart phone user if it lasts more than a day.

A lot of people have been experiencing these battery life problems, and the general consensus seems to be that Ping is the biggest cause. To disable Ping (and other potentially battery drainers like location services), head into iOS' Settings app and go to General > Restrictions. From there, hit "Enable Restrictions" and enter a passcode. Find Ping in the "Allow" list and slide its switch to off. You can also disable other services you don't use—like, say, FaceTime or location services—which may also help your battery life. Hit the link to read more.

and of course anything running in the background will make trouble.

Had the same problem after upgrading the iOS in my 2nd gen iPod Touch. Learned the answer was to go to settings and change to Airplane Mode before switching off (you'll see a graphic of a plane replace "iPod" at top left of screen). This stops all wireless activity.

Apparently if it just goes to sleep it's still checking for wifi signals. System works for me - battery lasts about a week if not used much. If I forget, it lasts about a day even if I'm not using it at all!

Edit to add: Thanks - I'll disable Ping if I can figure out what passcode I put in this thing.....

Mine's the same, I use it nearly every day for music and web browsing and playing games while watching telly. I always turn off wifi when I'm not using it though.
