Armstrong's Boot Theory / Observation
I haven't seen this mentioned, but if it has been I apologise. In the cafeteria at the start of The Impossible Astronaut The Doctor said that he needed Armstrong's boot . So he knew at this point how he was going to defeat The Silence. That suggests to me that he is already putting a plan in place to save himself and knows a lot more than he is letting on.

Actually a very good point, and not one I'd thought of.

This just adds to my theory that the Doc's death is part of his plan to defeat the Silence.
Dont forget Amy see's a silent moments before the killing, and also the Doc makes some gesture to the Spacesuit. Dont know how it all works though

Yes, for anyone else looking, it was at the end of the pre-credits sequence - right after everyone's been gathered together, the Doctor takes them to NASA because he's already formulated his plan for defeating the Silence, even before he knows anything about them!

one of the themes of the last series was that <everyone> knew what was happening apart form the Doctor - the Doctor and his TARDIS doesn't know.....he didn't get it until the moment he was stuck in the Pandorica
this time it seems to start with the 1103 Doctor seemingly knowing everything, in fact at that point the Silence have been defeated, although by timey wimey things the process of defeating them will start with the death of the Doctor or rather the <event> with the spaceman. Obviously this preordained process is going to mess up anyone notice that the climax of series 5 had the Doctor in a box it was impossible to get out of but easy to get into, and series 6 started with the Doctor in a box it was easy to get out of, but impossible to get into - the was a keypad on the inside, but didn't seem to be one on the outside |
