Just rewatched and if given the chance would probably vote it an excellent rather than a good, guaranteed if this was the series opener it would better recieved. I thought it was a lot better the second time, very strong standalone episode the only reason I voted it god was because it did seem like an extreme change in pace storywise from the heavy 2 openers with a completely differen story. But is still a very good episode IMO.

Started well, but ended ordinary.

A creepy story about a mermaid on a sailing ship had me feeling very optimistic, but it turned into Doctor Dances (alien tech tries to save poorly humans) with a touch of Star Trek hologram doctor, and wimped out of its potential scariness by giving everyone a happy ending. Also, Ropry spent at least one scene sitting aroudn int he background with no dialogue.

Oh well.

Aways a pleasure to see Frances Barber though.

This made me laugh out loud. The ...giggity. bit is absolutely hilarious. It took me a minute to work out the reference though!

Anyway, regarding CPR, surely they can be forgiven, dramatically speaking, for not slavishly filming 30 reps of chest compressions before Amy got to lock lips with a prone Rory. For a start it would just take too much screen time. Dramatic license , surely.
I know the counter argument will be that it is irresponsible, but at least it is raising it as a topic for discussion. Could you not watch it with the kids and then say,"Actually, she did that wrong, because it is just telly, but here is the correct way to do it, since we have brought it up!!"?

The whole thing doesn't make a single ounce of sense, but I enjoyed it anyway! It's definitley my least fav out of series 5 and series 6 so far. But there was pirates and some hilarious lines. I actually don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if it hadn't of been for mind melt i had from watching the previous 2 episodes. It was a bit of light relief, so i'm prepared for some amazing gaiman/moffat head ****ery tomorrow!
