I think they may kill off Rory for real this series, and it will be far more shocking because we've seen him survive so many times.

Except no one will believe it.

Another way of looking at it is that, because of previous plot events, the standard thing of characters being in jeopardy now actually provokes the tension and excitement that it's supposed to.

EDIT: Hang on, hang on, I'm getting mixed up. I thought everyone was talking about the bit at the end, but now I think about it there was the bit in the middle where Rory falls in the sea...

I don't see the problem. It's always been a feature of both old and new who that in most episodes a companion will be placed in mortal danger and escape or come back from it. No different now.

Did I really think Rory would die tonight? Nope. Of course not. In the same way I knew Rose would be brought back after she was 'killed' by the Anne-Droid or Martha would get rescued in 42.

Did Roses repeat appearances in S4 annoy you in the same way or was that ok with you because it was written by RTD?

I didn't see Frances Barber in this one, when did it happen?

It seems to be provoking laughter, since we all know it wouln'td even matter is he had died this time; there'd be some more timey-wimey crap in a couple of episodes to bring him back.

Hands up anyone who thinks Future Doctor is really dead.

Anything's better when it's written by someone with talent.

But I thought you didn't like the Moffat era?

Again. I'll put a similar question to you as I did before stcoop.

Did you think Ten was really dead and or regenerating at the end of the Stolen Earth?

Did you feel cheated when Rose didn't actually die at the end of S2?

What about the promised 'death' in S4?

Donna apparently not being able to remember but then 'oh wait! She can remember and not die but become a weapon!'

Ah it's ok, I watched it back, watched the bit where I had to go to the loo (I waited till the captain and the boy were talking, thought it'd be a safe moment!)

Is that the best you can come back with. You didn't even answer my question properly instead resorting to cheap jibes. Your credibility takes another knock.

I should add that apart from Donnas return in TEOT, I had no problem at all with the other points I raised. I loved the resolution of Rose and Donnas 'deaths' and thought the 'fake' regeneration was a great bit of attention grabbing drama.

I have a feeling there is a reason why Rory keeps surviving death. Even in the last series I wondered if it is in fact Rory that is more pivotal than Amy. I've wordered if the centurion thing was a red herring and if Amy is actually exists as Rory's protector.

Well , I suppose every story please. Wouldn't be Doctor Who unless the companions were regularly in peril quickly escaped from. Standard cliff hanger fare in the olden days. Loved the one in androzani.

TBH I think they missed a couple of chances put Amy in danger tonight, she practicially had a risk free episode, which can be nice, but it could have her on the plank instead of The Doctor and more importantly, it could just have easily have been her who got the spot and nearly died. Maybe they didn't do that because she nearly died at the end of Series 5, but as she hasn't died quite as many times as Rory we may have believed it more if it had been her dying......

As a long-standing DW fan - I am sick of Rory and Amy - AND the Doctor dying every other episode!! So - where's the suspense?? There ISN'T ANY!!:yawn:
Can't they come up with something new?

Well her frequent appearance was smart and it made sense. Rose was trying to communicate to The Doctor so of course she'll pop up now and then but it wasn't really in your face and in (or referenced in) every single episode. Also, you see her physically in the pilot and then she disappears so seeing her sometimes on the screen perpetuates the mystery.

I've gotta admit, they had me fooled for a few seconds at the end with Rory.

Maybe it'll have a point? Maybe they're trying to prove Rory's immortal or something? Doubt it though!
