I upgraded to an iPhone 4 last year, but still have my 3GS. I see O2 offer an unlock for free but you need the sim in your old phone. The iPhone 4 uses a microsim so I have no way of putting it in my 3GS.

Is there any way to get it factory unlocked, maybe taking it to an O2 store? Or using a PAYG sim?

Yeah I saw that, but apparently it means you can never upgrade via itunes again due to the ipad firmware (it runs the latest iOS). If I want to sell my 3GS on ebay this will affect the value, I'd rather get a factory unlock.

You can get a MicroSIM adapter. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/iPhone-4-iPad-...#ht_3167wt_136

This might not be the case now but the iPad baseband also used to f*ck the GPS

This

1. Get micro sim adapter from O2 and put microSIM in it and in 3GS
2. Fill out unlocking form at O2.co.uk/unlockmyiphone
3. Profit

It's generally a good habit to unlock the iPhone for free on O2 even if you don't need it at the time as it may come in handy later. OP you can use the same form to unlock your 4 if you haven't already
