Well lets take a look at what hasactually happened :
Beast below - independently solves problem and confronts doctor .
Victory - works with church ill and defuses bomb.
Vampires - suggests going in to lair solo against wishes of the male characters .
Silurians - negotiates peace policy.
Amy choice - through the whole thing she is doing the opposite of letting her partner define her.
Vincent - goes in after doctor.
Pirate story - single handed sword fight against pirates. "what kind of rubbish pirates are you anyway?"

Of course there are times she is in peril and needs rescue . That is what happens when fighting baddies. It happens to rory too.

It is your reasons that dont ring true. are you easily distracted by mini skirts?

daleks? I think they work best when there are several million of them , each one an indestructable weapon capable of taking over the whole planet putting the entire universe in inescapable danger until someone presses a button.

Actually I think I preferred the days when you could throw your coat over them and spin them round.

I'm sick of the daleks and find the re-use of the same old foes so frequently very lazy.

I particularly dislike it when foes have been destroyed and then reappear (although with time travel I suppose that's always going to be possible to a certain extent).

I notice that now, when the daleks are almost completely destroyed they do that lame 'emergency temporal shift' rubbish to 'explain' their continual reappearance.

Admittedly they are probably too good an enemy to resist but their appearances should be kept to once every three or four series.

Difficult to do that, unfortunately - Daleks are supposedly in their shells because they need them to survive.

Have to say your description of her being defined by the males in the cast is what rings false.

After reading through a website dedicated to the Dalek props throughout the original series, it goes to show that you don't need thousands of CGI Daleks to make them menacing.

I'm waiting for something that will challenge "Genesis of the Daleks" for greatest Dalek tale ever...what made that scary for me was how the Daleks' ancestor race (Kaleds/Dals/whatever) were drifting toward the Dalek mindset already, then you have the Primitive Daleks doing very little (which is sometimes scarier) until they take over at the very end. The direction and camera angles were superb (lowering the angle to make the Daleks seem taller - reduces Adults and Kids to the same height as viewers), the darker past of an established set of 'good guys' (The Thals), the tie-in with Nazi memories (only 30 years since the end of WW2) and to top it all off the Doctor was without his TARDIS so there was that extra element of danger.

I only have one question - how do the daleks build their shells and ships?

They don't have hands and definately don't have opposable thumbs - have they enslaved another race?

Thats a shame. I reckon they could be made really scary if they didnt have their casing shell but I reckon that idea could only be used once if it was made possible for one of them to survive just a little while without their casing. Them sliding around and jumping on peoples faces could be made scary but it would need a scary dark setting for that, like in a cave or something.

I'd hazard a guess. If Davros intended his creations to become self-sufficient, then he would've designed the Dalek factories to be easily maintained by Daleks. Either that, or the Daleks enslaved humanoid/thumb possessors if and when they needed them (Robomen, Duplicates, Movellans - if you believe John Peel, promises of power, ect ect)

They use Ogrons for a fair bit of their grunt work too.

Can't say I like to think of Daleks as helpless without their shells, they are still mutant gribblies that can strangle and unwary Doctor should he wander too close to their breeding pools! Its just that without their shells they are vulnerable to blasters, explosives and baseball bats.

I also thought it something of a plot hole to Doomsday that the lock on the Time Lords' Dalek prison was defeated just by the touch of a time traveller's hand. Even if the Daleks couldn't touch it themselves, it wouldn't be hard for them to get someone to do it for them.

The original ones were fine as long as they had nice metal floors and plenty of static to trundle around on. They had no need for Ogrons, instead they would simply call for whichever one of them was wearing the "gripping pincer hand" attachment that day. Or welding torch or oven gloves or whatever was needed for the task.

Needing rescuing is happening more and more with Rory to deflect from the fact that Amy is not a well-drawn out character. Compare her to Sarah Jane (journalist/adventurer), Ace (almost seen at the Doctor's equal towards the end) and River Song (time traveller/back-story full of paradoxes). You can quite easily make comparisons between Amy and Melanie whilst if you want to see truly independent female companions from the current run of Doctor Who then look no further than Martha or Donna.
Take away her relationship with The Doctor and Rory and she has very little to identify her as being special as a companion.

You undermine your own point - most of the characters you mention are that way because of the opportunity to travel with the Doctor. Amy was an independent, confident and competent girl before she met the Doctor, and continues to be so.

Yes. They had radio dishes on their backs which I think somehow received a power source. These were not the original daleks. These were from the second story. But the Doctor said they were from dalek ancient history compared to the "original" ones that they had met the previous year. Implying the "original" future daleks, once holed up in their metal city, put the power radio dishes in a cupboard and forget about them. Or something (are there any dalek history experts out there? I'm out of my depth).

Later on they met daleks who had bolted solar panels to themselves.

as long as they arent those fat-arsed-telltubby daleks then they're the originals in my book

What about making a Dalek a companion, in a bid to teach the Doctor that anyone, even his greatest enemies, can be reconstituted to being a worthwhile individual.

Basically I have no truck with this "no more daleks" argument, they're such a fantastic creation I wish they could be in every episode!

Of all the Daleks we've had so far I thought the cult of skaro was a great creation, there's something very menacing about a jet black dalek, wish they'd kept Sec around a bit longer before releasing him out of his case!

More Daleks please!
