Happy Families...

Just like the moon theme, I was just thinking that there seems to be a Walton esk / love ship feel to Who at the moment. Family and relationships are definitely another theme in the two Moffat seasons. I think Moffat is playing with us on this and we will be surprised at reality of situation. To name but a few teasers...

- The Doctor sending Amy to bed like a father figure.
- River the Doctors wife / lover / sig other "hello sweetie"
- Canton wants to get married...
- Amy has a mum and dad / doesn't have a mum and dad
- The faithful centurion waiting forever
- The girl with only 8 days to live
- The doctor being asked if he only had one day to spend with the woman he loved which would he choose? (Prophetic - We know the answer...)
- Amy prepared to die for Rory.
-The pregnancy or not...
- The doctor more flirty than before...
- The double date foursome dynamic on the Tardis.

The Doctor does not seem so lonely as before but I suspect this will all come crashing down in a dramatic fashion...

The scene with teary Amy, and a dying Rory brought a lump to my throat.

It was either bile or vomit.

I think I'm missing something obvious here.

Family is always a strong theme for a family show. (And people used to criticise RTD for including too much family!)

I liked that. Also add in the fact that he keeps calling her Amelia, when she prefers Amy and that he "only does it when he worries about her." (and he always worries about her). That's very much what a parent would do.

I think they're trying to paint the character relationships clearly. There is no Doctor/Amy "will they/won't they?" thing going on. They want to make it clear that Amy and Rory are the couple and the Doctor is like a parent/older brother who loves them both, but not in a romantic way.

Also, see his reaction to the possibility of Rory dying. Rory isn't just the "other one" from Leadworth. The Doctor loves him just as much as he loves Amy. I think they've built a nice dynamic between the three lead characters. I hope they all stay with the show for years.

Not forgetting the Captain being reunited with his son

I want less of the relationship stuff, Rory and Amy are starting to get on my nerves now. I wish one of the other would die. Mind you I didn't like David Tennant's doc and Rose's relationship either, or Captain Jack chatting up men in bars.

It should be about adventure, not american style soppiness at every turn.

If there's one thing I know about adventure, it is that it's worth nothing without someone to experience it with.

I wouldn't say it was American....these aspects aren't always at the forefront of every story, they just bring a required depth to the series. I actually think this depth has slightly been lost in the Moffat era...less domestic lovey stuff than there was with RTD. That said, I think the slight loss of it has been one of the things to hold Moffat's era back a little, in my opinion.
