I was just having a looksie on the internet after last night's episode because TBH I didn't really know that much about her and came across this article where some apparently she had some mixed reactions to her performance as seen on the bottom comment of this link:

I thought she was rather good. Maybe the fact she didn't have any lines helped but I didn't see any probs in her performance. Did you like her?

She was not brilliant but she was not bad either.

TBH it was not the sort of role to demonstrate her full range of acting talents, she is a trained actor after all.

However she was aiiiiiiit.

well she didn't have that much to do really, as the main impact of her character was realised through special effects. She did well enough with what she had to do, looking suitably alien and sinister in a beautiful sort of way.

Pretty indifferent to her. If it had not been for the fatc it had Lily Cole in the performance would have passed by without notice.

I never understand this business of news outlets taking a twitter or forum comment and reporting it as either "news" or indicative of a consensus. It's like reading a newspaper made up of things they overheard down the pub last night ("Bloke Down Pub in 'Don't Like All That Pirate Crap, Me' Shock! BBC Reeling!").

Unless they're quoting Granny McSmith of course, because that's as authoritative a source as you're likely to get.

I'm not really aware of who Cole is other than vaguely remembering some photos in the press. The siren/doctor thing worked well enough. I don't recall thinking the performance lacked. I should think it was pretty much bang on the writer's idea. It was, after all, an automaton with communication difficulties. Maybe the twitter person was looking for fault. The curse of the "novelty" casting (see: James Corden, Peter Kay, Catherine Tate and Hale & Pace. Fine performances, all of them.)

I thought she worked really well as the siren. She looked amazing, which is all she was really supposed to do!

They cast her in that part because she's a model and looks a bit wierd. An amazing actress would have been wasted as that character. She did what she was supposed to do and she did it well!

Lily fulfilled her limited brief perfectly well, in fact when thinking of who to cast as an ethereal, wordless and beautiful but slightly alien-looking turqoise siren I struggle to think of anyone more suitable

She was fine, she looked amazing and let's face it that's all she really had to do. I actually recognised her as well, as sometimes we have 'famous' guest stars I wouldn't know from Adam so it made a change there as well.

She was very flouncy, no lines meant all she had to do was prance about a lot, being a model it's a prerequisite for her proffesion. So far as prancing about in a floofy dress goes she was good. That's not to to be as scathing as it reads, but what else is there to judge her performance on? her expressions were a bit extreme but she had to work a lot harder to portray any feelings, all the other actors in the episode had the bonus of be able to shout and rant. So I think she did rather well.

She filled the brief perfectly. Look pretty and ethereal... check.

I mean, can she act? Who knows. But she does look good doing it

Training means nothing. Orlando Bloom is trained and look what people think of his "acting".

She didn't have much to do but she was great in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

Perfectly good performance for me, but to be honest it was a very undemanding role, I think even Andie MacDowell could have done a good job with it.

Like you and some of the others on here have said, she did what was required of her, which was to look gorgeous and be what she was supposed to be. Mission accomplished I think.

That's it really. She had the perfect features for the siren. I think she'd have been great as Fleur in the Potter films as well- I imagined Veela to be far more ethereally and 'freakily' beautiful than the regular-pretty-but-normal blonde girl they cast.

Fleur was only 1/4 Veela. I think the full Veelas were meant to look more striking, even "monstrous", maybe.

All the same, the Fleur in the films doesn't really look quite 'oh my god, look at her, she's the most perfect person ever' impression that I got from the books. Not that she doesn't look fine, just I expected more.

I have a bit a lady crush on her so I really liked her in the episode

The look for the siren/Doctor was to be "Other Worldly" . I think they captured that with Lilly Cole. Just as they captured a similar look for her in "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus"

She was really good.
Sometimes to act does not need words.

She looked great... as the part required no actual acting it would be hard to comment further

He look was very good, very alien. She didn;t really have to act much, just look good...which is no doubt why she is a model.

So...good!
