Why couldn't the non-fatally injured return

If the Siren was a nurse looking after people, why couldn't the pirates who just had a small cut on their hand return from the ghost ship once their cuts had healed. It's not like they needed caring for indefinately?

They were staying with their captain out of loyalty? That's what I took it to mean..

Like crazybutterflyx, I saw no reason to come to the conclusion that they couldn't return, merely that they didn't.

But they were being sedated (presumably) and kept in stasis for no reason other than a cut hand??

I think the suggestion is why weren't they returned to the ship when their injury healed naturally rather than why did they stay with the captain on the space ship.

Their injuries wouldn't heal naturally because Lily Cole didn't understand human physiology and therefore she kept the "patients" in stasis. They'd never get well on the alien ship.

They could have returned to the pirate ship after they were released (like Rory) but I think they stayed because the captain couldn't leave his son.

.... of course, the Doctor could have gone off in the Tardis and grabbed some future medicine to save the boy, but that would have probably violated some sort of rule.

Well, that's what I think

I think given the choice they'd choose to stay , it was a fantastic opportunity after all

Didn't Rory say he could teach the holographic Doctor to heal the ship crew as he was a nurse. My guess is he did teach the computer generated hologram how to heal the injured crew thus allowing them out of stasis. They probably did decide to stay however out of loyalty to their captain at the end.

Afterall he never gave up on them or his son. Thus they chose to stay on-board.

Yep, pretty much. You can be pirates back in the 17th Century (ish) and probably face an early and lonely death or stay on an actualy spaceship, in space, and likely have a much longer and more interesting life.

Plus they were probably dead if they went back anyway considering they were down to one barrel of water at that point and had very few other supplies remaining. And no treasure of course.

And would have been executed if caught by the authorities.

No, Rory was telling Amy that he could teach her CPR, so that he could be saved - he was almost drowned. The other pirates only had cuts and scratches, so they could be let out safely as long as he took responsibility for them.

Pretty much so, remember Amy had to sign a "consent form" in order to take Rory away, she was his wife and the ship doctor had to recognize that before allowing her to sign the "consent form" with her hand. Remember the Doctor telling Amy to show the ship doctor her wedding ring?

The ship doctor had no understanding of human physiology, so she never really healed anybody, just kept them in status. The only other person on board the ship that would be able to sign a consent form would the the Captain for his son, and of course he was not going to do that and have his son die from Typhoid.

Because those pirates showed such loyalty to him already! I'm surprised he didn't immediately execute half of them for mutiny.
