I am all for people covering our music. But not playing over our CD to advertise themselves and calling it their own. Make your own music!!

To explain a bit-There's a violinist on Britain's Got Talent who's playing over our recordings on her website. Not allowed. #BGT

Anyone suprised?!? Seems the way to do well this year is directly rip off someone elses work.
The guy singing nursery rhymes over Snow Patrol - Rip off The guy doing a PATHETIC version of evolution of dance - Rip off |

I think there are two problems:-
1. No permission was apparently sought from the artists/record company to use the recording. 2. The backing track is enhancing Alexandra's performance - you can barely hear her, but what you can hear is the violins on the backing track. I've tried to find a vid of Alexandra's performance, but there don't seem to be any. The only one I could find is a brief clip in this vid:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo9OXdsuK7Y It is hard to tell what's her and what's the backing track. Personally, I think instrumentalists and singers auditioning for BGT should have minimal accompaniment at the audition stages. |

Confirmed that Bond are taking legal action against BGT.
If the media go full throttle on this it could easily destroy the show. |

I found her website and there is a radio interview on there before the show, saying how she is covering something by Bond.

The whole Vanessa May thing is totally old hat.
"Sexy" girl plays pop tunes on violin. There's at least one every year. This one was particularly bad - I don't think she played a single note herself. Dire. Dire. Dire. The whole series is dire. Fed up with the performing dogs too. And the "street" dance troops. I should go out on a Saturday night and get drunk, I really should... |

Just to make it clear to all concerned, the producers will have known about this. This has major OFCOM-esque implications.

All that'll happen (at most) is ITV'll broadcast an apology to Bond ahead of the next semi final and Bond'll lap up all the juicy publicity, plus the possible compensation Syco may pay out (ITV'll refuse to pay compensation; Syco produce the show so it'll be down to them I would've thought). |

Doesn't it make you question the judges too? They have an 'actor'/singer, singer/actress and comedian....how can they judge when they don't know the particular skill...I imagine it's much tougher to get through as a singer than something wacky or this violinist
She is clearly not playing what they are hearing. I played vioin for years so it's obvious to me - the bow isn't following the music, but maybe it isn't clear to others? |

Well, they faked an audition. It's a pretty big deal to me... makes you wonder how many others they could have faked before now.
![]() the audition wasn't fake, the issue is one of copyright and being paid to use the track the idea this could "destroy" the show is hilarious, nor does it have anything to do with ofcom. assuming the story is accurate then bgt will just have to pay some royalities to the copyright holder of the song. i speculate however that the person complaining isn't the holder and perhaps permission had been given by their label or whoever does own the song without her knowing. there is the issue of backing track being loud yes, but that's neither here nor there - it's clear she is playig the violin herself |

Is the record label that Bond are on somehow linked to Syco? If so, there isn't really an issue. I'm also sure that ITV would make sure they have whatever permission is needed to play all of the music heard in Britain's Got Talent, since pretty much all of the show features music in one way or another.
Even if not, I hardly think 30 seconds of a backing track in a segment focussing on the performer's looks rather than her talent warrants an OFCOM investigation. And Bond apparently taking legal action makes them seem desperate and greedy. Shouldn't they be glad that their music can be heard in such a high profile show? A bit of free advertising for them? |

There was more than 30 seconds of a track being used - Alexandra would have played the entire piece. The whole performance may not have been shown, but it would have been filmed - a public performance in front of an audience. |
