There is already a thread on this topic.
It does help to check before starting a new thread.

The thread is dead .god save the thread.
This is directed at humax , hence the title.
Not another post to add to the boring tedious ongoing thread.

A bunny chased by an alsatian is unlikely to be unhappy for long.

More seriously, I understand that there is a beta version of the new software.
Do folk, who have it, recommend it ?
If yes, how did they get it ?

Not seen any reported problems, Seems to be 100% stable as far my personal experience goes.

Bobcat has left (or is about to leave Humax). His resignation was reported weeks ago on My Humax.

The question is so unfocused as to be worthless.

I am looking for a general improvement to the humax hdr all round.
Also speeding up the deletion of files , ftp, a fix for power off failed recordings ,speeding up the epg ,reading mp4 and other video formats ,some new widgets , youtube and anything else they can do to make it more like a media centre.
Considering the price I paid and the fact most of the above has been implemented on its sister version (cable hdr) in some European countries.
But I fear it won't happen as most manufactures in the past have not really bothered to much with the UK market.
The software on some of the equivalent European units has been generally more up to date.

He should try SKY
He will not get any more extra features then Humax! I am more then happy with my Foxsat HDR. I get all the features he wants by connecting my mac mini to my TV and more. Not biased you can have windows equivalent one either. Freesat boxes are designed for all the people who do want User friendly interface and not paying mur***** lots of wongas.

That one, which is far and away the most important of those you list, we have. At least those of us who are capable of using a USB memory stick have it.

anything else they can do to make it more like a media centre
If you wanted a media centre you should have bought a media centre.

Repassac agrees so 2 out of 2 is OK.
Graham, I've not done downloads before except to PCs. Is there a how to link?

What makes you think that I have not used the betas , I never said that I had not used them , at least read the post before replying.
As for a media centre I run myth tv using debian in other words I know what I am doing.
As I said and will repeat What's up humax in other words I am looking for someone from humax to reply.
Emailing them was fruitless better to get them on the forum.

Thanks again Graham.
I went to the back looking for one of those square USB ports, then thought do I extract the dish into caddy.
Does this go, via USB stick, into something other than the HDD ?

The ports are the standard rectangular ones (type a) used for a usb host controller so a usb pen drive will stick straight in. The front one is under the flap. The square one (type B) is for the device end so to connect a normal drive you have the familiar rectangular one for the PC end and a square one for the Drive end.
