Are there, or will there, be many differences between the new iPod touch 4 and iPhone 4?

I personally prefer my Iphone 4 because of it's communication capabilities and it's superb Camera,

The iPhone is meant to have a far better screen but have to agree its all those extra capabilities that make the phone essential.

I wondered whether the quality of iPhones for photos was as good as digital SLR cameras? I've been looking at these cameras as I reall wanted to keep my phone stuff separate from my photography:

These seem good, but I have no idea if the quality of phone cameras now is similar!

In my experience any of that range of cameras will blow any phone into the weeds for pictures.

No contest really. The optics on a phone can't really compete with a properly designed camera lens for one thing. Phones are OK for taking a quick shot when there is nothing better to hand.

But if you are in any way remotely serious about photography you would not use a phone, unless it was for artistic reasons.

What they said

Any camera is only as good as the lens in front of it.

A really really good DSLR lens can be between 2 and 5 grand.

The iPod Touch is basically just an iPhone without the cellular radio, GPS, good camera and half the memory.

It is however much slimmer and lighter than the iPhone 4.

I have both and prefer the iPod Touch as its much nicer to hold, I would love it if they could make an iPhone that thin.

Current iPod touch only has half the RAM of iPhone 4? Didn't realise that. I initially bought a Touch, but old it and bought n iPhone because I liked it so much and wanted to use data on it on the go.

The advantage of the iPhone is the convienence of only having to carry one device around rather than two.

A lower quality screen too I thought?
Though I would assume the slimness is more down to lower power requirements.

Yeah both are the same resolution but the iPod Touch doesn't have IPS.

Lower power requirements therefore slimmer battery, which is the majority of the bulk on an iPhone/iTouch.

The iTouch screen is lower quality, but the main difference in not having the IPS panel is a reduced viewing angle (which most of the time is irrelevant with that sort of device) and a reduced contrast ratio but still more than sufficient to provide a fairly black "black" provided you don't go mad with the brightness.

The iTouch 4 has half the RAM of the iPhone 4 so is less capable of multi-tasking, but is available in a model with twice the storage capacity.

£ 160 for the 3g 16gb and £ 145 for 8gb

Yes, but then the OP would be giving up the Retina screen on the iPhone 4 or new iPod, and that's absolutely stunning, not to mention a camera on the iPhone 4 that's superior in every way.

Yes design wise the IPhone is better, better camera, the retina screen is slightly better, more memory, phone/text.
