I think EastEnders did lose its sparkle a little bit in 2010. Especially coming up to the Christmas period. It has turned a corner though since then, and I think it's become quite character lead and has some great storylines at the moment.

Coronation Street is going through a rough patch, but I think it will regain that sparkle again. A show that lasts 40 odd years is bound to have its rough patches. I hope at present there are some promising plans in the pipeline.

Realistically, EE lost its sparkle or mojo in 2006.

I think he has done a good job, there are alot of good characters, I just wish that all soaps would bring back old characters more often such as I would love to see Suranne Jones back on corrie as karen mcdonald, also to see mavis wilton back to visit rita for a few days as that is long over due, maybe reference to old characters would be more realistic?

Also Sarah Platt and Martin Platt need to come back into it at some point as they are long forgotten nearly and david in real life would have had his dad at his wedding.
I love the fact that they have brought back Tommy Duckworth and have chris fountain play him! FANTASTIC IDEA!!!

What has happend to Pam Hobsworth though? when molly died i thought it was very unrealistic to not bring her dad back for the funeral, Toyah Battersby im suprised that she hasnt been back at any point and even spider nugent to see his old auntie em'!
Freida emily's neice hasnt been back for a while either, maybe bring mary's sibling into it that may be just as odd or maybe say that she has a son in his 20's somewhere that could be a total weirdo too...
Maybe they should bring Dr Carter's wife and family into the street as a one off to shead some light on him... maybe she could be the new practice manager or practice nurse? Also if they bring a new family into it maybe they could bring some district nurses into the soap as it would be a realistic aspect of the community also the pharmacy we never see...
The chipshop has become unseen too and should be featured again. They also need to populate victoria court too as no one significant lives there... maybe move nick back into there if kylie and david start to do his head in?

It's funny you say that, because I actually think that Gail is blossoming at the moment.

She's having some nice, gentle storylines for a change.

More happy Gail, please.

I actually hoped Nick was going to give her a job at the bar. That would have been nice.

... and if anything, Gail has become the Ivy Tilsley of Coronation Street

I do not agree it is in decline. There are several lines of intrigue, and CS can always fall back on its leisurely brand of social comedy during lean periods anyway, so it's far more rare for it to be completely appalling.
OK Then!!!

I think they need some new and fresh stories to give it a bit of a boost. The Corrie@50 Week was sensational, start of year decent and its going down a bit since.

This IS the 50th year and the stories should be of a higher quality frankly.

Looking forward to the dennis/rita and emily story- I think it could offer some nostalgia to when corrie was better.

Come off it. Coronation Street is a legend in it's own right, and I think perhaps the time has come for a bit of clearout on the cobbles. It happens to all the soaps at one time or another, it gets stale. And there is something very wrong at Corrie at the moment.

The storylines are just dreadful. Far too much of some characters, Becky, Graeme, Xin, Tina, Mary. Whilst all the others are just in the background with hardly any storylines at all.

The John Stape storyline has gone on too long, and its now gone beyond a farce. Mind you, with the other storylines not setting the telly on fire, its no wonder they've dragged this out as much as they have.

Phil Collinson promised a more hard hitting Corrie. Well apart from the Tram, theres been nowt much hard hitting from what I can see. Tram Week whilst spectacular, was a bit of a letdown in terms of story. No big surprise deaths, just characters who were going anyway. The laughable fourth victim being someone we didn't even know or see on screen.

The stories since then have been extremly patchy to say the least.

The quality at the moment just isn't there. And I think the way things are going, the axe is goiing to come down hard on Coronation Street, with some familar faces being shown the door, It happened in the late 90s, and it could happen again.

I really hope Phil isn't putting all his eggs in one basket with Michelle Collins's arrival.”

I agree with all this. Axings are needed pronto. Kirk, Maria, Tyrone, Fiz. All should be cleared out. I'm also dreading Michelle Collins.

Oh it's definitely looking like it will be the Michelle Collins show when she does arrive.

Everyone else on Corrie at the moment is just.....blah!

Michelle was never that great an actress anyway. I think her being iconic as Cindy got her lots of roles via name rather than her actual talent. I've not been impressed with any of Collinson's new characters. All of them are  to me. I think Xin will go down as one of the worst Corrie have ever produced.

I said that Coronation Street is in decline, but nowhere near the point of having a new executive producer.

I miss Tony Wood and Caroyn Reynolds, they were fantastic at Corrie.

Sorry to bump this topic but do Tony and Carolyn still run Hollyoaks? if so its best they left given the state that is now in but Tony was a fantastic producer in his heyday. The best Corrie had in recent years.

EastEnders and Coronation Street have switched roles.

Whereas before Coronation Street was very character led and always had great character interaction, EastEnders leads on that front now.

Coronation Street has become quite sensational with it's plots.
