Idris from "The Doctor's Wife"

I believe Idris will be the lost Timelord AND she will die during the episode, regenerating into River Song...

On a side note... the mysterious woman... I've said it before but I think she's going to be Amy's midwife.

Spoiler
This episode is not a main plot point for this year's Moffat-arc, I believe Episode 5-7, are, apparently.

Also worth remembering that The Doctor's Wife was originally going be made last season, but for reasons of cost (and the fact that Gaiman wanted to tinker with the script some more) it was postponed until now.
So I would be surprised if anything too crucial to the ongoing season arc happens in this episode.
That said, with SM in charge, anything could happen...

Not neccessarily.
To be honest until we've seen each episode I'm willing to accept anyone's theory, no matter how fanciful. Because I'm certain that even the most out-there theory won't cover everything that this season has in store for us...

Think this explains why she doesn't regenerate into River perhaps

Spoiler
According to Gaiman Idris dies in the opening scene of the episode and is then played by Suranne Jones for the rest of the episode - a hint at perhaps a regeneration

Considering that River said something about the Doctor falling out of the sky when she was an impressionable girl, this - to me - really rules out any chance that she will turn out Timelord.

Nope, I still maintain: 51st or 52nd century human ...

Haven't read the spoilers but I want to know why SHE is called Iris which is normally a Welsh male name.

I had a male friend from Sri Lanka called Idris!

I'm still confused by this ongoing discussion of the Blue Peter console: weren't quite a few of the Blue Peter features - e.g. old computer, 'phone, radio - incorporated into the current (Matt Smith) console? Also, certain other things - e.g. mustard and ketchup - are very in keeping with the Blue Peter design...

I posted this on another thread - hope no-one minds me re-posting it here in the circumstances...

"Idris is not only a Welsh name. In Islam, Idris is "the prophet of the philosophers" and is said to have lived around "the generations of Adam". Idris was also an inventor and is credited as being the first person to observe and understand the movement of the stars. Idris is male - but timelords may not be restricted to gender-specific bodies"

Aside - and unlikely to be related...

There was an "Idris" in Boom Town - Idris Hopper was Blaine's male secretary.

Also in the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVHen...layer_embedded

The Doctor says "can you get a message to Amy?" and Idris replies "which one is Amy?" Which may show she doesn't see male and female but just the person in front of her. Because she has been living in a bubble universe she might believe all our capable of being either male or female and so all names can be gender-ambiguous.

Ignoring the fact that "Idris" appears to be female in this story, the name in Arabic means "Prophet" and in Welsh - it's usually translated as "Ardent Lord" but can also be read as "Enthusiastic Lord" or "Implusive Lord".

(Originating from "rus" which is "Lord" or "Prince" and "udd" which is "Ardent", "Implusive" or "Enthusiastic")

Implusive Lord is a rather fitting translation in a Doctor Who context.

Matt Smiths console would have been designed and built before the Blue Peter competition was even announced let alone judged.

The competition was always to design a console
Spoiler
for Neil Gaimans episode but due to cost that episode was moved from Series 5 to Series 6.

I have been wondering whether, as its a bubble universe, everyone in it may naturally regenerate when they die? Such that there is no escape?
