Transferring old number to new phone - can I use my new phone in the meantime?

Got a new phone on contract. Transferring my old number over to it. I have been told that this will be done by monday.

I received my new phone today, put the sim in however it says "mobile network not found" - does this mean that I can't use the phone until monday?

If you are moving from one network to another it will say "no network found" as your new phone is tied to that network and your old network SIM won't be recognised.

You should be able to use your new SIM card though (and therefore new number) until it is "flashed" with your old number.

Someone may be able to explain that better than me though!!

It very much depends on who you ordered the phone from and which network or will be on.

Generally, the new SIM will have a temporary number which you can use until the port takes place. But as I say, there are exceptions and complications, so you'll need to give more details.

Old sim was vodafone

New phone and sim are on talkmobile... which I believe use vodafones network anyway?

Did you order the handset from Talkmobile? and it was delivered (which comes back to my question about who you ordered from) ? If so you'll need to confirm receipt of the handset and wait for the new SIM to be activated. Then you'll be able to use it.
